Teaching them the curriculum and making them score higher is not alone enough making them realize what they are capable of. Not every student are good with their IQ, their IQ Capacity does not judge what they can do. All students have a unique personality and skill it's us the tutors should make them understand that they can do a lot more than…

I believe that it is important for a tutor to provide a safe space for the student. They should feel comfortable in the environment they are being taught in as well as in the presence of the tutor. This will make for a conducive learning environment. The tutor should also be open to answering any questions the student might have. My patience is my…

Priority is to solve their problems. HOWEVER, the most important thing is to intrigue them with knowledge. I know people can be intimidated by math, so did I; but all they need is someone to help them realize the magic math brings to life. Besides academic stuff, I am good with people. I'm totally the opposite of boring. I smile a lot. I've…

Having patience. When students are having a hard time understanding the concept / question / answer, it is important to remain patient and not make them feel bad as that could leave them feeling insecure, which may cause them to give up on learning. It is important to keep their spirits high and encourage them to explore alternative methods of…

A good tutor will be patient as well as a good listener. Addressing the students' queries, errors with honesty yet with empathy. I think a tutor is a map for the pathway of the student's success. The tutor will do all within their limit to make sure they have given enough importance to the student to excel. This includes the peripheral knowledge that a student should have surrounding the content/topic - which means what is the purpose of learning/ how is it going to help…

I feel tutor plays an important role in every student's life. As a student by myself, I feel the urge for proper guidance to solve the assignments. The first and foremost is being patient. Not everyone can learn and understand concepts at the same pace, so patience is very important. To be patient enough to see results. Lesson plannings are crucial for students to understand the flow of their subjects. I believe I am…

Inside PrahranTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 Ava focused on applying the Pythagorean Theorem to word problems and practiced unit conversions for measurement, including using conversion prefixes.

In Year 9, Nicholas worked through negative integers and reviewed fraction concepts, while also tackling algebraic skills like solving single-variable equations and simplifying expressions.

For Year 11, Ben prepared for an upcoming probability test by analyzing tree diagrams and completed exam revision covering parabolas and key syllabus topics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student sometimes "guessed what to do next" in algebra instead of logically working through each step, which led to avoidable errors when negative numbers appeared.

In a senior session, forgetting to bring completed homework meant valuable time was spent reconstructing past work rather than tackling new challenges.

For a Year 10 trigonometry task, "relying too heavily on formulas" without understanding when or why to use them caused confusion on non-standard problems.

As one tutor noted, "skipping steps made mistakes with + and – harder to catch."

Neatness in written solutions often lagged behind verbal reasoning, especially during revision.

Recent Achievements

A Prahran tutoring session saw a Year 10 student finally nail SOH CAH TOA, now manipulating trig equations independently after struggling to set them up on her own.

One high schooler earned full marks on a quiz—word problems included—when last term he hesitated with multi-step solutions and often skipped them altogether.

Another secondary student who used to quietly guess at answers has started speaking up about learning strategies, even offering feedback mid-session.

This week, a younger student completed her entire practice paper before the lesson and came prepared with specific questions she'd written down herself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prahran / Windsor Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Prahran High School.
