A tutor is a means of reassurance, while tutors aren't expected to be an all knowing textbook, students find reassurance knowing that someone with more knowledge and experience are within an arm's reach and are able to lend a hand. As a tutor, I will do my best to be a friendly source of aid that is almost always available. As a tutor I believe…

By building a supportive, encouraging environment, tutors can help students overcome challenges and develop a growth mindset. I think the most important skills a tutor can do for student is to be patience and communicate. Understand student about their difficulties. Since I am dealing with students and their weaknesses, I must be patient regardless of the circumstances. Also, the only way to do my job as a tutor is to convey difficult information to students through…

I believe in these times students lack I confidence and motivation of what learning really is about. They are continuously forced to learn new concepts quickly and they This works to a certain extent but I would pass on my knowledge as a friendly tutor giving the students clear explanations and the reason to learn. At the same time, I will…

I don't hope to replace the school teachers completely. However 1 to 1 and smaller group engagements would help put in a more personal touch that would minimize the weakness of the student, bring the best out of them and build character (patience, resilience, analytical thinking) to supplement them to succeed in their education journey Analytical…

A tutor can make a huge difference in a student’s learning experience by trying to help students to build a better understanding and not just memorizing the concepts. My strengths are: - Taking difficult concepts, making them simple and relatable to each person. - Each person has their own way to learn, so I adjust my teaching methods to fit…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them the formulaic way of how to study. There is a set procedure that is unique to every individual and subject of how to fully understand and apply various concepts. Once one is able to find that procedure and develop it, they are able to learn much more in their given subject. In…

Firstly, the most important factor for a tutor is her/her knowledge in the field he/she is tutoring. I am proud that I have always tried so hard to learn as much as possible and got highest marks during my studies. Secondly, it is really important to know how to behave and how to transfer knowledge to a student. I am glad that I know how this…

Provide guidance and attention that he missed during his regular school environment. As tutors, we need to determine the needs of our students. For example, if a student is brilliant, they only need guidance; if a student is good, they need motivation or push for the next stage; but if a student is struggling, then they need mentoring. I am…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is serve as a secondary teacher/mentor to a school teacher. As school teachers have to focus on a large class (usually around 30 students), they are unable to address the needs of each student. As each student has their own struggles and needs, an exterior tutor provides…

Far too often students fall into the trap of memorisation. They lack the conceptual understanding, thus when given a question that does not perfectly coincide with their rules, they panic. Inside PrairiewoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emily worked on equations involving algebraic expressions and fractions, as well as mean, median, mode and interpreting dot plots in data.

Year 8 student Emily focused on the distance formula and midpoint formula, then moved to gradient calculations using both formulas and graphs.

Year 9 student Emily tackled financial mathematics by calculating weekly wages and overtime pay, followed by understanding income tax and net versus gross pay.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often arrived late and unprepared for lessons, which meant valuable time was spent recapping missed content rather than moving forward.

"She sometimes isn't paying attention to the lesson," a tutor observed during algebra revision, resulting in gaps that made new material harder to grasp.

In Year 11 Legal Studies, forgetting to bring notes or not revising earlier topics led to confusion when trying to link recent cases with legal principles.

Missed homework in Year 10 Maths left methods half-remembered, so key steps were forgotten on tests—especially when under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Prairiewood tutor noticed a Year 9 student who had been hesitant to ask for help now regularly speaks up when confused, making it easier for her to grasp trickier maths topics like equations involving fractions.

In another high school session, a student initially struggled with law reform concepts but by the end could explain key cases in detail, even bringing in her own researched examples.

Meanwhile, a primary student who previously mixed up times tables is now reciting them smoothly each week and completed all ten multiplication problems without errors during the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wetherill Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mary MacKillop Catholic College.
