For me, I personally consider the ability of independent thinking is what a tutor really needs to teach his students across all the subjects, it is not only about memorizing the standardized formulas of problem-solving but also understanding the hidden logic of the methods. I believe the most important thing I should've done to my students is to…

A tutor must make themselves approachable and be a role model figure to their students. As someone they have a more personalized time space with compared to their school teachers, the students are often likely to look up to their tutors as figures of inspiration and personal ceilings. It is our duty as these figures to not just live up to their…

A good tutor should be able to clearly explain concepts and methods to their students, and should be able to answer any questions a student has and be prepared before the tutoring session for these questions. A good tutor should give the confidence and tools for a student to succeed independently. I think I have a strong knowledge of the VCE…

Based on my experience, I would love to help my students to find out the most appropriate study method for them. As I was in secondary school, science subjects were not my preferable subjects at all. I learnt it by heart and completely did not understand the theories behind at all. My method was not appropriate as it is more suitable for…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is guide a student. Just watering is not enough but should help the students to grow his roots so that the student grasps the concepts not just answer some previously seen examples. I like to teach students in a way that is interactive and not directive.I feel that the more students learn about the…

I believe that a tutor should be friendly with the student so that the student can freely discuss the problems with his/her tutor. The tutor can use interesting techniques to describe the concepts which will increase the concentration of the student and also his/her eagerness to learn. Again asking the student questions about the topic can help…

As for me, the most crucial thing should be improving their academic performances while arousing their interest in studying. To be specific, these are what I consider responsible tutorial behaviors. 1. Do sufficient pre-class preparation and make notes for every key point that you are going to talk about in detail. 2. Be patient in class. Think…

I believe be able to help students in study is one important thing. However helping them emotionally and in life could be essential for them. As they might have had a bad day at school or didn’t get good marks in exams. There’s few things I believe that’s more important than study. I believe I can help kids understanding a concept during…

As a tutor, I think it's important to be there for them. Learning loads of new concepts almost every second day can be overwhelming and with that, all students have their strengths and weaknesses. Thus as a tutor it would be a good measure to know their strengths and weaknesses and work with them through their weaknesses and add them to the list…

very happy with the tutor I have for my daughters. Ezy-math obviously employ top notch tutors. I cannot fault the girl we have, she has a natural ability for teaching and does it in a way that my daughters readily understand. Well worth the money as my daughters marks in both Mathematics and Chemistry have vastly improved.

Inside Princes HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mila focused on adding and subtracting decimals as well as solving fraction problems using number lines.

For Year 9, Liam worked through quadratic equations—factoring, graphing parabolas, and translating their positions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby practised statistics by creating box plots and calculating mean and standard deviation from real data sets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, one student showed reluctance to write out answers for trend analysis in graph questions—"sometimes reluctant in describing the trends (which I'm sure he knows but too tired to write them down)"—leading to incomplete responses.

A Year 11 student struggled with submitting assessments on time, missing deadlines and sometimes not attempting all required tasks.

In a Year 4 session, a child forgot their textbook, which limited progress during tutoring.

Another senior student relied heavily on hints for advanced problems rather than trying multiple strategies first, often pausing whenever a new method was introduced.

Recent Achievements

One Princes Hill tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rush through questions is now carefully writing down every step when solving quadratics, leading to fewer errors and quicker solutions.

In a recent session with a Year 9 student, the tutor saw real improvement as she started tackling worded fraction problems independently—something she hesitated with before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who once waited for prompts has begun asking thoughtful questions about upcoming topics, showing new initiative in her learning. Last week, she asked to try material ahead of her class for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brunswick Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Princes Hill Secondary College.
