I consider the tutors passion and enthusiasm towards a subject can have a positive impact on how the student receives the information. When a tutor is enthusiastic on the content they are teaching, this transfers to the student. I am patient and try to break down complex content ideas into manageable ideas. From experience, I have learnt this is…

I believe it is most important for a tutor to tailor their teaching according to the needs of their student. Many students learn in different ways such as visual or through different compounding activities to build a strong foundation before moving on to more difficult concepts. I believe being able to teach a student in the way that is most…

A tutor should be patient and never say something is easy. They should always encourage and find ways to explain something step-by-step such that everything is explained and can be linked back to a central idea. I am patient, friendly, and I can see and understand why something can be difficult to understand. I encourage and can relate to finding…

I think the most important thing a tutor can teach students is not knowledge, but attitude towards life and problems. Let the students know how to be a person who does not shrink back in the face of difficulties and is not afraid and has creative thinking I can understand children's feelings and emotions since I have a similar age with them. So I…

Teaching students why things are the way they are rather than just telling them they exist. This way, students will understand the concepts for the long term rather than just rote learning them. I am a really good communicator and friendly by nature. This will allow me to explain hard concepts in a simple manner which can be understood by…

The most important things a tutor can do for students are to anticipate and adapt to any situation while remaining accessible at all times. She was consistently supportive and available…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is assisting them to learn about a concept which they may have been struggling with. This is because once they understand the basics of 'how' to do the problem, they will know exactly 'what' methods to used to tackle it. My strengths as a tutor are determination and perfection. For…

Giving them encouragement and prompting them to keep trying. Emphasizing repetition is very important. It builds a 'keep trying' attitude in the students that will carry them through school and further on in their lives. I am patient with students. Moreover, students should feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and exploring ideas without judgment. The best thing a tutor can do for a student is to assess their interest, strong and weak points and guide them to help them decide what field/specialization they want to seem themselves in. Being a tutor brings me valuable lessons, one of which is to ensure the students understand the concepts through problems. It was quite challenging at first because some problems were quite tricky and the students could give up. Inside ProspectTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Hannah focused on simplifying fractions and converting them into decimals using long division.

Year 8 student Sarah worked through algebra expansion and applied the difference of two squares to solve problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jack practised solving quadratic equations and calculated the distance between two points on a coordinate plane.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often made small calculation errors in algebra because her working was cramped—she could consider spacing out her writing, which would help her see things clearer and avoid miscues.

In Year 11, forgetting to inform the tutor about an upcoming test meant missing out on targeted preparation.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student sometimes forgot to complete homework and needed reminders to use notes more actively when stuck on multiplication tables.

When distracted during lessons (as noted in Year 8), it led to confusion with sign rules and slower progress on new topics.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Prospect recently saw Athena, a high school student, take real initiative by constructing her own step-by-step solutions for challenging algebra problems—something she'd hesitated to do before.

Another high schooler, Constanza, has shifted from passively listening to actively asking clarifying questions about fractions and now tackles new equations much faster than at the start of term.

In Year 4, Alyse was able to apply formulas independently when solving worded problems after initially needing lots of prompting; this time she completed her worksheet without any hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prospect Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosary School.
