I think the best thing a tutor can do for a student is help them work towards their goals. I like to build up their confidence towards their weakness and most importantly educate them on their learning style which is so important long term. Not only can they identify their learning style but they will adapt to a new revision method that’s most…

You must be adaptable, and change according to how each student acts since every individual is very distinct, this will help cater to their differences (such as learning speed). Must also remember to leave no one student behind and pick them up when they fail, help them learn from their mistakes. I am very considerate and patient, thus able to…

To help a student walk the right path that he/she desires. A tutor should understand a students passion and dream and help them achieve this dream. Acknowledging one's own failure and encouraging students to learn from his/her mistakes rather than losing hope. Student needs to understand why they are smothered with all this education, the reason…

It is important for a top achieving student to become academically independent; he must learn how to learn things for themselves and what it really means to understand a concept. A good tutor, I believe can help students become academically independent by trying to build confidence in the student by affirming their self-worth and helping them…

Patience and not comparing them with the others. I believe that each student has their own pace of learning. Lack of patience and comparing them with others will certainly hamper their learning process and will give them less confidence on their studies. Understanding the most effective way of learning for each student is also crucial. When I was…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not just teach them their lessons - but also teach them better study habits. This will ensure that the students may learn to study on their own without the help of a tutor all the time, and that they may be able to grow as an individual prepared for bigger challenges (such as uni,…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student include: 1. Foster Understanding: A tutor’s primary role is to help the student grasp the subject matter. This means breaking down complex ideas into simpler parts, providing clear explanations, and offering different perspectives until the student understands. 2. Build Confidence: By…

My students always have so much fun in my classes. I think it is important, because when students are enjoying themselves in the learning process, it makes it so much easier to learn. That is why I feel it is so important to build an easy rapport with students in the beginning, making the student feel at ease, and comfortable, putting the student…

I think the most important thing to understand as a tutor is that different students think differently. Certain students will naturally have more or less affinity to different subjects, but also different ways of learning. Trying to figure out which way to best teach requires understanding which way students are best able to learn. For instance,…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to foster independent thinking and create a safe space for questions. A tutor should not only improve grades but also equip them with skills and strategies they can apply beyond the tutoring sessions. One of my key strengths is patience. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is provide a learning environment free from both the rigid structure and inherent judgement present in centres of mass education. A calmer, more personal environment allows the establishment of time tables and study plans more conducive to the individual student. There is also…

The most important things a student can get from a tutor is support and encouragement. There is a genuine need for understanding between students and their tutors. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond just teaching content. A tutor should help a child feel capable--- when students believe in themselves, everything else becomes easier. It's important to break concepts down simply, meet students where they are, and help them move forward step by step without overwhelm.…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build confidence and self-esteem. Often, people feel discouraged or left out when unable to keep up with their class. The tutor should be reliable, and help them unleash their potential. Students should learn that they are able to do things on their own, hence a tutor should also be encouraging. Inside Queens ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Liam focused on fraction arithmetic and reading comprehension, using short texts to practice extracting key information.

For Year 8, Chloe worked through linear equations involving substitution as well as area and volume calculations for basic geometric shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Noah revised quadratic equations—covering both factorisation methods and decomposing linear terms—to build confidence with more complex algebraic manipulation.

Recent Challenges

In recent Year 9–11 maths sessions, Aaron's working was frequently disorganised and incomplete, with steps missing or muddled—"working needs work, messy and without proper order nor structure."

During algebra tasks, he often copied algorithms without understanding the logic behind each step, which led to persistent calculation errors and confusion when context changed.

In senior-level geometry and trigonometry, over-reliance on memory instead of methodical reasoning caused mistakes; for example, Aaron sometimes guessed at answers or "forgot everything ratio" if a question mixed topics.

When tired or frustrated, he would abandon questions prematurely rather than attempt a systematic approach.

Recent Achievements

One Queens Park tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach to tricky algebra: after weeks of rushing through calculations and making errors, he's now writing out each step and catching mistakes himself—something he avoided before.

In Year 11, another student who used to quietly guess at answers in probability lessons has started asking clarifying questions whenever she gets stuck, which is new for her and shows real initiative.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once hesitated during reading time now volunteers to read aloud and explains how she draws conclusions from the text.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Waverley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Moriah College.
