For me, the most important thing a tutor can provide a student is confidence. It is paramount that a tutor encourages the student to become intrinsically motivated to study and to cultivate a love for the subject, as this will allow the student to fully achieve their potential. Ensuring that a student has confidence and self belief can be just as…

Resetting tutor's mind and knowledge to the student's level is the first thing a tutor should do. I strongly believe the story about helping someone how to fish would give him/her a life, sympolises a teacher's greatness. I am very patient and friendly. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make the student like the subject which the fear or hate the most. I think my biggest achievement as a tutor was when a student of mine struggling with Maths came to me and after attending my tuition for a year, she fell in love with the subject she feared the most. Hence, to be able to…

While the obvious role of a tutor would be to make a student fully understand the concepts that the tutor is teaching but I think making a student confident, developing communication skills and making them the best version of themselves are some of the quintessential roles of a tutor. Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

I believe that it is important for a tutor to understand that each child is unique in their own way. They have different strengths and weaknesses and with that their own capacity of understanding. Local Reviews

Gurmuk Singh was prompt, polite and very very patient with my son during tuition. He explained the concepts in such a way my son understood them. As a result, Liam's grades improved so much, that he passed his Year 12 Maths with a grade significantly above what he may otherwise have achieved with Gurmuks tuition. I would have no hesitation in recommending Gur to future clients

Inside RedcliffeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Isayla focused on revising linear equations and trigonometry ahead of her upcoming test, practicing step-by-step solutions.

Year 8 student Emily worked through plotting coordinates to create graphs using multiple methods, and also practiced interpreting graphs and charts.

For Year 9, Alex reviewed indices and surds alongside strategies for solving parabolas, with extra attention given to breaking down complex algebraic expressions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, one student tended to skip writing out steps for algebra and fraction problems, which led to confusion when sign errors appeared—"jumps straight to the last step without writing down intermediate steps," a tutor observed.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student preparing essays struggled with sentence flow and often repeated vocabulary instead of planning ideas or backing up arguments with statistics.

In both cases, relying on quick answers or familiar patterns meant feedback was sometimes overlooked. This left them unsure during tests when no hints were available and underprepared for more complex or unfamiliar question types.

Recent Achievements

One Redcliffe tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate during essay planning now laying out her main points much more quickly and with clearer structure, which helped her finish an outline independently last session.

Another win came from a Year 9 maths student: after struggling with standard deviation, he not only understood the concept this week but also worked through sample problems without prompting.

In Year 6, a previously quiet student began openly asking for help instead of guessing when unsure—she put her hand up twice during decimals work and completed every question correctly by the end of class.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Miranda is a wonderful, professional and patient tutor. The first day Marcus met her he opened up to her and feels really comfortable. He is so happy and enjoys tutoring.I think Miranda is a great fit for Marcus .

Tom was absolutely amazing. He was able to create a great connection with Grace immediately. It was the first time I've seen her smile while doing math! He really provided some achievable challenges and she is actually excited for her next session.

Belle has benefited immensely from Amir's tuition and she has regained her confidence in both English and Maths.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Belmont W.A. Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Maria Goretti's Catholic School.
