Most students end up investing in a tutor as they have not been taught the skills to synthesise concepts and study themselves. My aim as a tutor is to inspire students to be independent learners by providing them with the supplies, support, and motivation to continue what they have learned by themselves at home. Tutoring only occurs for a short…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is giving them the ability to problem solve independently, so that s a tutor would not be needed in the future. Giving a student the ability to learn how to study is the perfect opportunity for that student to reach its full potential. Another key factor a tutor can bestow on a student is the…

Claire is tutoring my son in year 11 maths methods and he is gaining a lot from the sessions. She is highly intelligent, concise, adaptable and friendly. Highly recommend.
Angie, Reedy Creek

Inside Reedy CreekTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Will worked on multiplying and dividing fractions, as well as solving worded fraction problems using extension worksheets from school.

Year 11 student Jacob focused on binomial probability and cumulative density functions (cdf), including calculator techniques for normal distributions. In another lesson, Jacob also reviewed double derivatives and optimisation strategies for upcoming internal assessments, practising concavity and deriving techniques with exam-style questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, one student had not completed the assigned revision before a session, which meant time was spent reteaching content rather than consolidating skills for upcoming assessments.

In a recent Year 10 statistics assignment, the same student's written explanations lacked clear logical flow and did not consistently justify conclusions; "he needs to relate his research back to the main point or solution," as noted by a tutor.

For another student in senior maths, there was heavy reliance on calculators and formula sheets—this became apparent when unfamiliar algebraic rearrangements without aids led to confusion mid-exam.

Recent Achievements

One Reedy Creek tutor noticed a real shift with Jacob, a high schooler who used to struggle with calculator functions—he now independently applies log rules and converts questions into log form without prompting.

Will, also in high school, recently began showing his working for integer problems after hesitating to communicate his process last term; he's now much more thorough and accurate on assignments as a result.

In Year 5, Will tackled division with pro-numerals using a new strategy he discovered himself, overcoming earlier confusion independently by choosing an approach that worked for him.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Robina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hillcrest Christian College.
