The most important thing a tutor can do is not only to support a student but to make them feel as though they have accomplished what they set out to achieve, even if it is a small goal, as long as it gets fulfilled. I believe that I can personalise the amount of help I provide to a student, no matter their abilities. This will allow me to ensure…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is teach them how to teach themselves. While teaching the area of study is a crucial part of tutoring I believe that it's even more important for students to learn how to study at home, in a way that helps them retain the information and is also tailored to their preferred learning style. I…

I believe tutors should always believe in their student and never give up. They will aim to instil a positive growth mindset in their students. They will be persistent in their effort to help the student achieve their goals. Good tutors are also student focused, aiming to help the student develop their current skills and scaffold them to learn…

As a tutor, I consider it essential to establish a positive connection not only with the students but also with their parents. It is more significant for a tutor to offer support and guidance to students, leading them toward a beneficial path, rather than imposing additional pressure or burdens on them. One of the most important things a tutor can do is just be patient with them. As students are brought up in a competitive environment in school, most times they feel inferior to their peers as not everyone learns at the same pace. Some learn faster and some learn slower and most often students feel lost and pressured. As a tutor, being there for…

Listening. I think the best thing a tutor/mentor can do is listen to their students to find out which subjects/areas that need to be focused on. Anyone can teach the syllabus but a great tutor will produce a study plan suited to each individual student which will help bring best out of them. studying at RMIT has helped further broaden my Math and…

Giving confidence to the student is the most important thing. If the student is not confident in their ability to do the task, then they will believe that they can not and will not try. Understanding the frustrations that the student can have because they don't understand something, staying calm and patiently taking the student through the problem…

I believe a tutor should be a role model for the students and encourage him/her on their academic journey. I have found that many times students don't have proper guidance in regards to academics, hence they develop this stigma that they are not smart enough. A good tutor should be able to clearly explain concepts and methods to their students, and should be able to answer any questions a student has and be prepared before the tutoring session for these questions. 1. When teaching it is important to post assess the students understanding after the lesson was completed. 2. Mistakes should be promptly identified and corrected. 3. It is important to genuinely praise the students efforts , answers in the session as it helps to build confidence. 4. Should be able to adopt accordingly to each student. 5.…

Local Reviews

Ezy math tutoring is a great program that my daughter loves being a part of.
Stephen, Reservoir

Inside ReservoirTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 Olivia practised addition and subtraction with large numbers and explored perimeter of shapes, also tackling times tables using games.

Year 8 James revised circle properties in preparation for a test, and worked on algebra problems involving fractions.

For Year 10 Elizabeth, the lesson focused on linear equations—including solving simultaneous equations—and interpreting solutions such as one, none, or infinitely many using example problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 English, planning and organizing written tasks remained a challenge—"Jordan would benefit by planning his writing tasks using the following steps: close reading, brainstorming, and checking grammar," noted one tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student in maths often avoided writing down full workings for algebraic problems; as observed, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

In senior maths, another student grew reliant on calculators even for simple multiplications (e.g., 3Ă—2), slowing their fluency.

During a Year 7 test review, lack of focus led to missed question details and unnecessary confusion over parallel lines with transversals.

Recent Achievements

One Reservoir tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student's approach to polynomial equations—she initially hesitated with the rational root theorem, but after breaking it down together, she started explaining each step back and solved difference of cubes problems on her own.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student who previously struggled with grouping like terms became noticeably faster and more accurate using brackets correctly when expanding algebraic expressions, showing improved speed and accuracy.

In a younger session, one Year 4 student moved from quietly guessing at answers to confidently asking for clarification whenever she was unsure, finishing her multiplication tables independently by the end.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Reservoir Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Gabriel's School.
