I believe tutors should always believe in their student and never give up. They will aim to instil a positive growth mindset in their students. They will be persistent in their effort to help the student achieve their goals. Good tutors are also student focused, aiming to help the student develop their current skills and scaffold them to learn…

The most important thing a chemistry tutor can do is not only to support a student but to make them feel as though they have accomplished what they set out to achieve, even if it is a small goal, as long as it gets fulfilled. I believe that I can personalise the amount of help I provide to a student, no matter their abilities. This will allow me…

The most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is take a step back to understand what the student already knows and build on that knowledge at a pace that is comfortable with. Most students fall behind because they get stuck on a specific concept and the class does not wait for them before moving on. A tutor can provide a 1 on 1…

Being adaptable and patient to every child's individual learning style or ability is crucial in not just tutoring, but any situation where you act as a role model for someone younger. I would think my biggest strength is my ability to communicate with younger students in a way that would encourage a stronger learning experience. I think I am…

I believe a chemistry tutor should be a role model for the students and encourage him/her on their academic journey. I have found that many times students don't have proper guidance in regards to academics, hence they develop this stigma that they are not smart enough. As a tutor my role is to encourage the students to not only do better in…

Be prepared for a lesson, be interested, explain things properly and clearly, make sure they actually understand and aren't just saying 'yes', allowing them to work through some tasks themselves. I think I am good at explaining and communicating. I am also quite down to earth, so I think that it is easy to ask me any questions.…

The tutor needs to make sure that all the questions of the student are answered really well. Most importantly, the tutor needs to be a role model for the student. Listening. I think the best thing a chemistry tutor/mentor can do is listen to their students to find out which subjects/areas that need to be focused on. Anyone can teach the syllabus but a great tutor will produce a study plan suited to each individual student which will help bring best out of them. studying at RMIT has helped further broaden my…

I believe that it is important to help students to understand how academic skills can lead them to their goals, and to encourage them to work hard, doing their best to make the most of opportunities that come to them. It is also important for a chemistry tutor to be able to guide a student through failure, and help them to deal with it, if it…

I think the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is helping the student believe in themselves and letting them know they can do well. I feel the most important thing for any tutor is to be able to communicate with its student effectively. A tutor should not make an assumption that just because students do not have any questions, they are understanding the topic. It is important to go around the class and ask questions individually to check on the understanding. Teaching has…

Inside RosannaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Charlie focused on adding and subtracting fractions and prepared for an upcoming fractions test using targeted practice.

In Year 8, Emily worked through number patterns, including identifying rules and solving pattern problems involving multiplication and substitution.

For Year 11, Alex tackled least squares regression lines in statistics and reinforced understanding of data transformation concepts by working through example questions together.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, one student regularly forgot to bring her calculator and books, which meant she lost valuable practice time in class and sometimes couldn't complete set tasks.

A Year 10 learner struggled with setting out answers clearly—her algebra steps were hard to follow, as a tutor noted: "She skipped showing working out, which hid errors."

Meanwhile, a senior student missed a lesson but did not seek help afterwards, so gaps remained before the next topic began.

In each case, organization or avoidance of visible working led to extra confusion or slower progress during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Rosanna tutor noted a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to speak up, now regularly asks for help when confused and finishes most questions without prompting.

In a senior session, Sarah from Year 12 pushed ahead of her class by tackling exam-style matrices problems—she actively asked detailed questions to clarify tricky points, something she rarely did before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student surprised her tutor by spotting number patterns independently; just weeks ago she needed step-by-step guidance for each problem but now often works through the sequences independently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Yes - Bailey is happy with Reshmi. She's good at explaining how he should be breaking down the question in order to get the answer for the problem. As he only has less than 2 months before the HSC they've been working on a plan to get Bailey to work on and improve his maths.

We are very happy with Sheetal. Timothy is making great progress and we are happy to continue. We will have Tim do his Navy test in a few weeks and if we need to do a bridging course we will ask Sheetal to tutor him with that as well.

Mitchell is happy with the new tutor, thank you. Sean is a good communicator which makes Mitchell feel more relaxed thanks again.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rosanna Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosanna Primary School.
