To prepare for class and constantly check up on their progress. Students often need help outside of class, which lots of tutors do not provide. I am always accessible outside of class hours, ensuring students get help whenever they need it. Another important thing is to motivate the student. I always felt inspired to study after my sessions with…

I believe that every individual learns things in different ways. In a classroom, each teacher will have their own way of presenting and teaching the content, and this method is most likely to be consistent throughout the year. Whilst this may cater for some students, and help them excel in the particular subject, it might not be suitable for other…

As aforementioned, I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them to boost their self-confidence by improving their self-efficacy skills :) As a tutor, I think my biggest strength is the ability to give thorough constructive criticism, whilst still being kind and respectful. Furthermore, I am good at explaining…

Inside Rochedale SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alice practised adding and subtracting fractions with both like and unlike denominators, as well as converting improper fractions to mixed numbers.

In Year 9, Jack focused on algebraic skills including simplifying, factorising, and performing operations on expressions in preparation for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah tackled financial maths by working through problems involving simple interest calculations and using real-life scenarios such as credit card purchases.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, a student often left reports unfinished or with unclear structure; "report needs to be written up in a proper structure," one tutor noted.

In Year 8, another arrived unprepared—without a notebook or working calculator—which slowed the start of geometry lessons.

A Year 10 learner frequently practised only familiar textbook questions at home, missing out on harder problem-solving types and leaving gaps when tackling quadratic equations by completing the square.

One primary student hesitated to show working for surface area problems, sometimes erasing mistakes rather than correcting them—making it difficult to track their thinking mid-lesson.

Recent Achievements

A Rochedale South tutor noted that a Year 11 student, who previously relied on memorising steps for equations, learned to set up and solve problems independently using proper methods—a real shift in approach.

Another high school student not only completed all revision materials but also corrected common mistakes in compound interest, showing greater care and accuracy than before.

Meanwhile, a primary student who often lost focus managed to stay engaged throughout the session and eagerly used props to understand 3D shapes in 2D drawings. The lesson finished with her confidently explaining how she solved the worksheet questions out loud.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with the way James is tutoring Julian. Julian is responding well and is comfortable around him being of similar age and James hasn't long completed his HSC. James is passionate about tutoring and is going out of his way to bring out the best in him and to reach his full potential.

We are very happy with how things are going. Luke is a great tutor. He explains things in a way Hannah can understand and if she doesnt he is very patient and tries it another way till she does. Thank you

Zoe is great, Dylan really likes her and feels comfortable around her which is great. as you said, we wont be seeing actual result right away but I think its going to work :)

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan North Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Peter's Primary School.
