Flexible as this means being willing to adjust techniques and approaches to meet the learning styles of the students 3. Be patient as learn not to show annoyance in your speech or body language 4. Be good listener as learn to pick up clues in your…

Different students have different learning techniques, in that sense I think a teacher should describe a topic multiple times along with different ways to solve the same problem. And, I always keep in mind that everyone's understanding is not same and do not have the same mind set for learning the subjects. As a tutor, I believe I have the enough…

A tutor is a guide to show the right path. Students might stumble a lot, but tutor should hold him up, stand by him and show the right direction. Never giving up on a student, looking for opportunities to advance their skill is what a tutor should always do. I try to explain things from the student's perspective. For example, a gamer might…

Inside RockdaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sasha worked through measurement questions from her textbook, focusing on calculating area and converting between units; she also completed a worksheet for homework support.

For Year 11, Jay tackled practice quiz problems on networks, rates, and ratios directly aligned with the standard mathematics syllabus.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Ava practiced reading aloud and writing in English before moving on to adding and subtracting fractions as well as being introduced to Roman numerals.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student in Mathematics struggled to retain and apply network theory definitions, as noted: "it was just something that needed drilling—he didn't fully grasp the need for repetition." This led to difficulties when tackling unfamiliar problems, with reliance on prompts rather than independent recall.

In Year 9, one student avoided writing down working in area and perimeter tasks, sometimes erasing attempts instead of leaving a visible trail—making it harder to trace logic or learn from mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student tended to hyper-focus on irrelevant details during challenging surface area questions, sidestepping the main task and losing confidence mid-way.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rockdale noticed a high school student who used to quietly follow instructions now catching calculation errors on his own and even pointing them out before the tutor, showing real engagement during rates and ratios work.

Another high schooler, after previously skipping written steps in maths, has begun writing down her working without reminders and even talks through her process out loud—especially useful when tackling algebraic questions she once found tricky.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who struggled with mixed numerals picked up the concept quickly this week and chose to attempt extra practice questions independently before asking for help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bayside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Mary and St Mina's Coptic Orthodox College, Rockdale campus.
