I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence and make learning feel approachable. When students feel supported and understood, they're far more likely to engage, ask questions, and take risks, which is where real growth happens! A great tutor doesn't just explain the content clearly; they also adapt to the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be loving. Actually caring for the student's academic success will not only make them more likely to succeed, but it will help them go beyond to reaching a scholarly level. My two leading strengths are that I know how to teach to make difficult subjects more easy to understand and I am…

I believe a tutor should always be reliable, punctual, patient, kind, and supportive - as this creates a safe learning environment for all students. I am newly graduated, meaning I still recall all the emotions and stresses of high school, and know the content and structure of various subjects extremely well. I excelled at my own school in English…

To me, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a transformative journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Beyond just imparting knowledge, I believe that a tutor's role is to serve as a guide, mentor, and cheerleader rolled into one. Firstly, it's crucial to create a safe and supportive environment where students…

Being not just a teacher, but a mentor, a model of inspiration in their life to look forward to. The importance of a good tutor in shaping up a bright student regardless of age or background can't be underestimated. I think the key thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that their individual learning habits are in order, creating an essential degree of independence. I have found it extremely valuable to ensure students develop a solid work ethic and understand how they can study effectively. In this sense tutoring plays a supplementary role, ensuring…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show the student that through perseverance they can be good at the subject, and to appreciate the subject's content for what it is. Another important feature is instilling confidence in the student as that is a skill that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. I am currently…

To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. An empowering tutor equips…

Build a personal relationship with them and understand what the student does and doesn't like. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is act as a motivation for them to achieve their personal best. The most important thing a tutor could do for a student is show them that every student responds to education in the same way or at the same pace and whichever way they process information is perfectly normal. The most important thing is that a tutor recognises a student as an individual; addressing areas where a student has little confidence while offering lifelong learning strategies. To me, a tutor must be able to effectively communicate ideas to students in a manner that allows them to understand the concept. I believe creating a comfortable environment for the student to thrive in, and being able to adapt to different students learning styles are among the most important things a tutor can do. Inside Rodd PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Lachlan focused on introductory algebra, working through a custom booklet and practicing foundational equation-solving.

In Year 10, Sophie revised financial mathematics—including error in measurement—by tackling last-minute practice questions she selected ahead of an exam.

For Year 11, Alex concentrated on curve sketching with the derivative and worked through global maximum and minimum problems to strengthen understanding for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student missed revision work from Term 1 and, as a tutor noted, "has not done any work on this revision on his own," limiting his readiness for upcoming exams.

In Year 12 Standard Maths, another student failed to mention an assignment until after completion—missing the chance for targeted support.

Messy working was evident with one Year 10: "crams working onto one page," making errors harder to spot and fix.

Several senior students repeatedly forgot key formulae or relied too heavily on memorisation rather than understanding, especially in trigonometry and algebra; one admitted, "I don't use the formula sheet much."

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rodd Point recently noticed a big shift in one Year 11 student, who started asking for help and clarifying questions about trig rather than just memorising steps—something he used to avoid.

In Year 10, another student began tackling algebra homework independently before sessions, showing initiative that hadn't been there last term.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 6 finally managed to complete all their calculation-based problems without needing hints after previously hesitating on worded maths questions.

Last week, one high schooler finished an entire practice test within the time limit and got nearly every answer correct.

What they say about our tutoring

Thank you for your follow up email. I think Daniel has done a great job connecting with Anthony. Hopefully Anthony will gain some confidence with his maths.

Thanks for your follow up. All seems to be going well so far . Anthony seems quite comfortable with Max and I think a little more confident . Of course it's still early days so we will assess his progress again soon.

Cassie is great! Ashley is already showing improvement in class and is happy with Cassie as she is easy to understand and can relate to her well. Thank you

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Five Dock Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Dobroyd Point Public School.
