While helping students learn is obviously important, the psychological and social aspects of tutoring are arguably much more important. A good tutor will help give their students the support and connection they need so that they can become better, more confident and independent learners. A good tutor will make their students feel comfortable,…

As mentioned in some of the earlier answers, I think that a tutor is not only there to impart their own knowledge, but also be there for the development of any responsibility or independence characteristics as students grow. This can include but is not limited to: confidence, tenacity, perseverance and the ability to bounce back against adversity…

When a tutor has done enough and can leave the students knowing they can stand on their own feet during the actual examinations and in actual life situations because the students have learnt the fundamentals and that they will not depart from it. I made students feel comfortable and focused during tutorial. I taught the students with the basics…

Tutoring provides an essential experience in sharing knowledge with the younger generation, granting them an improved standard of living associated with better academic performance and a critical confidence booster at a younger age. As a somewhat recently graduated HSC student and close to the younger generation, I think my strength as a tutor is…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, tailor lessons to their unique learning style, and create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. Beyond just teaching content, a tutor should inspire curiosity, foster a positive attitude toward learning, and help the…

The most important thing I can do for a student is be flexible and patient with them and build a newfound sense of confidence. Every person learns differently, some may struggle more in certain aspects than others and need just that little bit of extra help for them to comprehend what they're learning or grasp a concept. Being the avenue for that…

A great tutor is someone who is able to understand and sympathise with a student's situation but is also able to help them learn and achieve higher results. Therefore, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student for me is to be able to efficiently teach at a pace comfortable for a student. In terms of my teaching ability, I achieved a…

I think it is important for the tutor to influence the student to be more enthusiastic towards his studies. It is easier to learn stuff with focus and the right attitude. The tutor has to try and make sessions interesting. Also, at the end of the day, the student must not be dependent on the tutor. As a tutor, you know you have succeeded when once…

The most important thing by far, especially that I have found over the years, is to have a presence that shows genuine concern for the student's understanding. I believe tutors bear much more of a responsibility than they let on. In my experience, the way a tutor approaches a problem with a student, no matter how trivial, can mean the difference…

The most important thing a tutor can do for his/her student is to provide them assistance on topics outside their course as it not only reduces their stress level thus making it easier for students to focus but also at the same time students can relate to the teacher and thus aiding in their understanding. The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clear explanations, build their confidence, and encourage independent thinking. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is definitely taking initiative in everything they do. An outstanding tutor should be able take charge and seize the initiative; being a role model, for example, if a student has an exam coming up, a tutor should take the initiative to provide extra sessions; being able to put their best foot…

When students trust tutors, they become more engaged and benefit from intellectual discussions about the content. Additionally, the students feel motivated and…

I consider being able know the student's strength and weakness and explain them the topic accordingly to be the most important thing. People have different strengths, weakness and thinking capabilities. Inside Roseville ChaseTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student James worked on money calculations and fractions, as well as strengthening his skills with multiplication and division using everyday examples.

In Year 8, Trai practised plotting linear equations and revising key algebraic techniques, also converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages to support his exam preparation.

For Year 9, Aja focused on trigonometry problems including angles of depression and elevation, alongside factorising quadratic expressions through targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, a student did not write down his working, leading to frequent errors that were hard to trace and correct.

During a Year 12 assignment, another student delayed drafting Parts A and B, making it difficult to start later sections on time.

In Year 6, incomplete homework meant less opportunity to review rounding decimals before the next lesson.

One Year 11 student only revised familiar surd questions and avoided unfamiliar formats; this limited exposure left her struggling with variety in tests.

After missing steps in a trigonometry proof (Year 10), confidence dipped noticeably during timed practice.

Recent Achievements

In Year 4, James was initially unsure about placing fractions on a number line, but by the end of the session he confidently ordered fractions like 1/4 and 1/3 without prompting.

For a high school student, Aja had struggled with bearings questions before her test; after targeted practice last week, she managed to answer those problems accurately during her assessment.

Another older student began hesitating to solve for x independently, but finished the lesson able to perform each step on his own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Castle Cove Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Castle Cove Public School.
