The most important thing a tutor can do is focus on the specific needs of the student, identify areas of weakness, and tailor the teaching approach accordingly. Students may have gaps in their understanding due to missed classes, inadequate explanations, or other reasons. A tutor can identify these gaps and help bridge them by revisiting…

The most important thing is trust that both tutor and student should have on each other. An ease of asking questions and making mistakes is another very important thing. Its okay to make mistakes but if your student is afraid of you , they would never ask questions and will be afraid to make mistakes so the tutor will never be able to…

what a tutor can do is more than teaching. Tutors should be friends and a good-listener for evey student. Every student is different. They may have different learning difficulty and hardness to go through. listen their trouble on studying and give suggestions based on different cases instead of forcing the knowledge into their brain from the…

Always know what students need and what's their priority. This means a tutor need to show respect to students. They need to know very well about the students and are wise and knowledgable enough to give good advice and make sure students love listening to the advice. I love to solve questions. I think listening to them to make sure their needs are known and understood by all parties involved. This helps create a supportive atmosphere that can hopefully allow the student to reach their potential. Making it a fun and rewarding experience for both parties is also important, as this can show a student how good the experience can be,…

According to me, the most important thing as a tutor is to try and try until the student understands, although it takes a lot of patience and time. It is also important to explore the student's best way of learning, which may include audio, visual, or kinesthetic, and make efforts to teach them accordingly. As a tutor, I first make my students…

Recognising what the student requires and teaching it accordingly is one of the critical teaching factors. After teaching a specific section, it is essential to question the student on the respective topics to understand whether the student understood the basic concept of the section I believe every student has a different capacity. As a student,…

From my experience, one of the most important thing I can do is finding out the weakness of students and helping them overcome that weakness instead of letting them away from it. Tutors should be honest, too when there is the question that we do not know. Last but not least, tutors should help students build confidence and give support as much as…

To reassure them that having a tutor and needing a bit of extra help is nothing to be ashamed of. Moreover than learning the tasks, helping them feel they're capable of more than they think they are. I think the most important thing is to give them an interest in the subjects. In my study path, I realized that the easiest way to study well in a subject is loving them. Therefore, instead of providing them with a full of academic lessons, teachers should help them feel entertained in the lessons. Then, they will find out and get better by…

One of the most important things I have realised over helping my friends in year 12 would be to walk through the question and not actually doing the question for the student. Inside Royston ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 2 student Naba worked on identifying and using the greater than, less than, and equals signs to compare numbers, as well as reading, writing, and using essential sight words like 'find', 'four', and 'for' in sentences.

Year 6 student Maim practised long division with three-digit numbers (including those with remainders) and improved her persuasive writing skills through a prompt arguing against homework.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Sarah focused on algebraic expressions—creating them from worded problems—and began learning how to square numbers in preparation for more advanced algebra.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, confusion often arose when translating word problems into algebraic expressions; as one tutor observed, "he gets tangled in his thoughts when the answer is there, but gets lost in the process." This meant repeated prompts were needed to clarify what each question required, especially with addition versus multiplication.

For a Year 4 student, misunderstanding instructions in both maths and English led to avoidable errors—she only improved after reading questions aloud together.

In early primary, messy handwriting and reversed numbers made written work hard to interpret; copying sentences sometimes resulted in missing words or letters, which slowed progress.

Recent Achievements

One Royston Park tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 8 student's approach to fractions—after consistently getting homework problems wrong, he was able to tackle them successfully in-session and began talking through his steps out loud instead of guessing quietly.

A high schooler who used to get stuck on long division now solves multi-digit sums with barely any prompting and even identified her own mistakes without waiting for help.

Meanwhile, a younger student who struggled to form sentences independently is now using word prompts to create imaginative descriptions, only asking for guidance when truly needed.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Payneham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marden Senior College.
