An ideal tutor is one who is focussed on student potential and does their best to build and surface that potential. Over the process of doing so, a tutor should take into consideration their students needs, becoming a good role model exhibiting clear communication and patience. As mentioned in some of the earlier answers, I think that a tutor is not only there to impart their own knowledge, but also be there for the development of any responsibility or independence characteristics as students grow. This can include but is not limited to: confidence, tenacity, perseverance and the ability to bounce back against adversity…

I believe a tutor's role is to help students truly understand what they're learning, build their confidence, and develop skills they can use beyond the classroom. I'm patient and adaptable, and I take the time to explain concepts in different ways until they really make sense to the student. I try to create an encouraging space where they feel…

An important aspect of tutoring is not hindering the student's creativity. I believe every student has a different learning style. If a student requires additional assistance, the tutor is responsible for identifying it and providing extra support, while being patient with them. It is our responsibility to encourage students to be creative with…

To me, it is very important to make sure that my students are comfortable with the materials and the teaching speed, so they would be more willing to open up and learn, rather than pressuring them to study. I'm very flexible when it comes to teaching styles and communication. It has never occurred to me that one way of learning fit all. If I need…

I feel that the ability to carefully understand the certain needs and goals of each student and provide particular guidance and assistance a long the way to achieving these goals is crucial in tutoring, rather than…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is to provide individualised instruction, as well as a safe and non-judgemental learning environment to student, something that they may not be able to obtain in a normal big-size class with limited time to teach an increasingly information-heavy curriculum. I have been tutoring students…

I consider many things which a tutor can do for a student like a tutor can also be a motivator for his students and motivate them to learn. He must clarify the concepts and solve the doubts of his students. A tutor can build a supportive & encouraging environment which can empower students to become independent learners. Being a tutor, I find my…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide guidance that goes beyond the subject content. Facilitate the comprehension of the concepts studied, a tutor is not there to do the homework by himself but rather to show a better way to do it and to provide help in understanding the concepts needed to carry out a homework or while studying for an exam. I believe it's important for tutors to ensure that their students see them as a not only in a 'teacher' role, but someone they could look to advice if they ever feel the need - like a role model, or a mentor. Tutors should help their students gain confidence in their ability to achieve their goals, and by establishing small, achievable milestones…

We were a little bit picky about the kind of tutor we wanted, however, Ezy Tutor found the right kind of person for our child, and they were respectful of the type of person we were looking for. I would recommend Ezy Tutor to anyone looking for great quality tutoring at home.

Inside RydeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Olivia focused on understanding contractions using apostrophes in English and then practiced identifying rhyming words and meaning within poetry, before tackling addition, subtraction, multiplication, and word problem strategies in Mathematics.

For Year 10, Jack worked through simultaneous equations as well as exploring the properties of surds and indices, ensuring solid foundations ahead of upcoming school topics.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Sarah revised algebraic expressions and continued practicing linear equations, using a mix of written exercises to build fluency with key skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student often relied on a calculator for simple arithmetic, like "1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2," which slowed mental math development.

During a Year 11 trigonometry lesson, rushing led to confusion between tan x and x itself—She needs to read questions more carefully to avoid very careless, preventable mistakes.

In Year 7 statistics, messy working sometimes caused numbers to be missed when calculating mean or median until highlighters were used.

A senior student tackling networks struggled with time management in exams; complex questions risked taking up too much time and affecting completion of other sections.

Recent Achievements

One Ryde tutor noted a Year 10 student who, after weeks of struggling with quadratic equations, now confidently solves them using both the quadratic formula and the cross method—last session, she even explained her steps out loud without prompting.

In Year 8 maths, a previously hesitant student surprised his tutor by independently breaking down irregular prisms into familiar shapes to calculate volume, something he'd avoided trying alone before.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner in English picked up on new backchecking strategies and started speaking her answers aloud throughout the lesson; she required almost no reassurance as she worked through each question.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ryde Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ryde Public School.
