Primarily, a tutor needs to be a good listener. Listen the problems of an individual carefully and provide the solution. Tutor can be a mentor not only of the academic but can be a mentor of other emotional and mental problems. Patience is the baby step to become an effective tutor. Some children might need patience levels that may put me through…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are: 1. Helping students gain confidence as well as the skills they need to meet their goals. 2. Helping students relieve their academic stress and support them as much as I can. One of my main strengths is that I have numerous study techniques that I can share with them. Hence, my students…

I consider the most important thing as a tutor is the success of my student academically through personalised lessons. I feel an obligation to ensure that my students pass or exceed in the topics they bring to the lessons and aim to empower them to create independent learners. Teaching the content and helping them fully grasp it, rather than doing it for them. I find that a lot of subjects have a particular rhythm to them; although some require rote learning (like particular concepts, especially within math), there are always patterns that can be identified so that students achieve their very best. For example: Stage 2…

A tutor needs to help identify a student's strong points and motivate the students in every possible way. It's not always the tutor that should be valued and respected but the students also needs the same respect and care. Also, a tutor should know how to boost up the morale of a student when he/she is feeling low. If student is facing some…

A tutor has to be patient and welcoming for their students. The reason these students come for tutoring is because they face difficulty keeping up with school. So they should be given the space to understand at their own pace, in their own method and a teacher needs to recognize that. We need to recognize the method which we choose to teach a…

According to me the most important trait in a tutor is patience. It is not necessary that each child learns at the same pace. I strongly believe in the idea behind the saying, teach a person how to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime. My engineering degree has taught me how to break…

Inside Salisbury EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Jayden focused on calculating discounts with money and revising key algebra concepts, working through real-world examples.

In Year 7, Olivia practiced area and perimeter calculations using a variety of shapes and also completed extra questions on coordinate geometry to support her class assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Marcus tackled trigonometry homework—solving for unknown sides in triangles—and reviewed how to convert between mixed and proper fractions during revision sessions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 maths, she forgot to do her homework, which meant she arrived unsure about clock content and needed extra time revisiting basics.

For a Year 7 student, confusion over rearranging formulae led to repeated requests for help on problems already covered—needed a lot more assistance than anticipated.

A Year 10 learner tackling algebra skipped showing steps, resulting in forgotten methods and growing frustration when answers didn't match.

One Year 6 student underestimated their ability and hesitated to attempt questions independently after small setbacks. The knock-on effect: progress slowed as energy shifted from learning new skills to patching old gaps.

Recent Achievements

A Salisbury East tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who had previously struggled with rearranging algebraic formulae now tackling them more independently, only needing minimal prompts to spot and fix errors.

In a Year 7 session, a student who used to wait for step-by-step help now completes homework with much less assistance, showing initiative by correcting mistakes on her own.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students has moved from confusion about reading clocks to confidently solving time problems like "5:45 to 8:15" without hesitation—something she couldn't do just a few weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Para Hills Community Hub Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Keller Road Primary School.
