To allow the student to learn by guiding them there. This way, I believe students are able to improve even after you’ve stopped tutoring them. In short, I believe the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student would be for tutors to ensure that students are confident in how they approach a problem. My strengths as a tutor, I…

The most important thing that a chemistry tutor can do for the students is helping them improve their academics and achieve the highest goal in their ability. For example, once students feel doubting about the topic they have studied at school, the tutor should explain where the students have not understood and make sure to move on once they…

Encouragement and patience. Through personal experience, even if the student improve their score by 1% from their last test, this is enough of an encouragement for them to push harder and let them know you will be their for them anytime when they are stuck or needing help. I can sympathise very well with the students since most of the time I know…

A tutor MUST be able to explain concepts to students in very different ways that allow them to understand a difficult topic. Sometimes teachers at school cannot personally cater to students, so tutors should strive to explain things in a very eloquent, logical manner so that the student can follow. Ability to relate. I will not be "above" them,…

A tutor's job is to teach. However, I do believe that the student's experience during their time learning most important. Inside SandringhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Ben practised solving integer equations and converting fractions to decimals, using worked examples for clarity.

Year 10, Maya reviewed the application of differentiation principles to kinematics, focusing on velocity versus speed and using the chain rule.

For Year 11, Tom worked through linear equations with CAS technology and started reviewing simple and compound interest calculations in preparation for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

Across several year levels, incomplete homework and organization have limited progress: one Year 8 student "didn't remember much in terms of LCM and HCF from last week," with homework left unfinished.

In Years 9–10, written work was sometimes messy or unclear—setting out in algebra and fraction tasks was flagged as needing improvement.

A Year 11 student used the CAS calculator for even simple sums rather than practicing manual computation, making it harder to spot errors or build confidence.

During a recent test, a senior student's stress led to forgotten methods and difficulty recalling processes under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Sandringham noticed a big shift with one Year 10 student who, after struggling to write out her working, now uses a step-by-step "talk aloud" strategy and completes practice tests much more neatly.

In Year 12 maths, another student recently scored 81% on a tech-free SAC and is getting better at checking the wording of each question to avoid losing marks for careless mistakes—something that had tripped him up before.

Meanwhile, a primary student who found analogue time confusing can now confidently read times past the hour without needing reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Regardless of his university workload he is still able to find the time to teach me topics which I, personally, was unable to comprehend. Although he may be young, his abilities have allowed me to develop a greater understanding of mathematics along with helping me uncover my pure passion for the world that is maths.

Tutoring with Amir is going much better. He is very knowledgeable on the subject and I feel Jaime will definitely improve and benefit from ongoing tutoring

Deepti has been tutoring my son in Year 7. Deepti has developed an amazing rapport with my son and has inspired him emensely. His maths results for algebra have improved out of sight since having Deepti tutor him. Deepti is able to engage him and explain the rules and concepts and reinforce them through practice. Having been a teacher myself, I am very impressed with Deepti's skills and this has been reflected in my son's results. In addition his keenness in maths since having Deepti as his tutor is very impressive.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sandringham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Firbank Grammar School - Sandringham Campus.
