In my opinion, one of the most important things tutor can do is to make his students understand the core concepts behind what they are studying, rather than just helping them memorize facts or processes. Offering emotional support along with academic guidance can significantly impact a student's willingness to engage with the subject matter. I…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to not judge their ability but rather acknowledge the hardwork and congratulate their persistence and incentivise them to want to learn as opposed to being forced to learn, reward the student for getting a new personal best on their test, this will ensure the child knows that their hardwork…

A tutor has to be a customized teacher for every individual student. One is approached as a tutor to provide special teaching services to a child. So most importantly, presenting information and getting students to engage with content in a variety of ways should be the aim of a tutor which can not only improve their chances of understanding but…

A important thing is for tutors to efficiently understand their students through communicating in a clear and proficient way. Building relationships with students requires you to communicate strongly and acknowledge whether the child is struggling or doesn't understand certain topics. This maximises the students learning and increases their…

Be willing to share your own experiences. By sharing information about what you have encountered, the student may feel relieved that he is not alone. Sharing experiences and lessons learned goes a long way toward building trust and support. It also helps the student build self-confidence. Children are rarely bored with me in the classroom, because…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be a mentor. While not only teaching them what they have be taught, but also being someone that they look up to several things and someone that they strive to learn from. Thats my leading by example as a tutor is important to make sure you are someone they look up to. Having a mentor…

Patience, encouragement, support and passion. When I think back on my good teachers, they were people who treated me fairly, respected me, believed in me and were also skilled in their profession. I believe the ability to catalyse inner motivation is the greatest thing a tutor can do for their student. From my experience, I performed the best in subjects where my teachers were able to open my eyes to the interesting and cool aspects, as well as their application in real life. When a student understands not only the "WHAT" of the content,…

He should not only know the concept but also know how to frame it according to the needs of his student I can boil down a complex topic in simple terms. Inside SeabrookTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emily worked through probability questions and tackled algebra and indices practice, focusing on using step-by-step examples to clarify each process.

In Year 10, Sam focused on quadratic equations—solving and graphing them—and explored higher degree polynomials with a mix of written solutions and calculator checks.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ava concentrated on differentiation in calculus and completed SAC revision sessions targeting trigonometry problems from recent class assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student relied heavily on their CAS calculator for differentiation tasks—"needs to recall formulas without prompts," noted the tutor—which led to hesitation when calculators weren't allowed.

In Year 9, skipping careful reading of probability questions resulted in misinterpreted instructions and incomplete answers.

For a Year 7 student, messy fraction working made it difficult to spot where errors had crept in; lines were crowded, so mistakes went unnoticed until reviewing.

One senior student glossed over multi-step algebra problems, confident in their understanding, but this habit meant missing key simplification steps and redoing work under time pressure during tests.

Recent Achievements

One Seabrook tutor noticed a big change in a Year 11 student who previously mixed up the product and chain rules in calculus; now, she not only distinguishes between them but can apply both when solving derivative problems.

A Year 9 student, after weeks of hesitating on algebra basics, started tackling basic algebra questions without prompting—she even attempted a few challenging worded equations for the first time.

Meanwhile, another high schooler who struggled with binomial probability questions last term managed to answer almost every question on his recent practice SAC independently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Just wanted to let you know that i am very impressed with Angus. If you could have all your staff as good as hime you would be close to retirement. He is extremely thorough, knowledgeable and he is very engaging. Hopefully Amy can take advantage of his knowledge. Thanks

Ezy Math is one of the most professional tutoring agencies I have worked for. The time and effort it put into it's tutors and the feedback they provide to students and their families is to be admired. Tutoring is a very rewarding experience. Being able to see those precious 'Ahh' moments daily is a gift.

Thanks so much for the follow up!! Daniel is fantastic and Tom is really enjoying his time with him!! He said he understood more after 2 hours than his first semester of Chemistry!! Really happy and so is Tom!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Altona Meadows Library and Learning Centre—or at your child's school (with permission), like Seabrook Primary School.
