Not only teaching a subject, but making they more confident and independent. For me, the best teachers/tutors that I had were those that showed me the importance of having a "problem solving" mentality, instead of simply learning how to get some questions right. I am very experienced and I have dealt with many students, that had different…

The most important thing to do is inpire curiosity and make sure my students always strive to know more, be better and make the most of their education. I want my students to reach above and beyond what they thought they would be able to do and in the end feel proud of the effort they put in and reap the rewards of their hard work. I am patient…

A tutor can offer student great flexibility in teaching materials and methods that may not be available in a classroom setting. Going through the student's difficulties one by one, with personal attention, makes a significant difference to a learning environment. I am very organized and I understand how difficult it can be to learn different…

I believe it is the confidence that tutors can develop in their students, so that the stress and nervousness is lessened when it comes to taking the end-of-year exams, or even just a simple test. Also, to be able to cultivate an understanding and mutual relationship with the student so that there is no shyness or hesitation when it comes to asking…

I believe patience is important as everyone learns and works at a different pace so being able to cope with that is important. Moreover, it is crucial that a physics tutor is open-minded and non-judgemental as the concept of learning is different for everyone. Further, a tutor should be organized and behave professionally to set out the aura of a…

I understand that a physics tutor can significantly reduce the burden of academic chores off the shoulders of a student and hence support the efforts towards more productive activities. The success factor, to a large extend, depends upon the individual effort and determination of the student. However, tutor can ensure that the student's effort is…

I believe that it is paramount for a physics tutor to understand that every student learns differently and therefore may need a different approach to studying to achieve their goals. A tutor should ask their student how they learn best and implement this feedback into their approach to tutoring. Similarly, it is important to understand that each…

I think the tutor should understand what a student's basics are and what he initially knows about the topic. He can try to ask him if he/she doesn't understand the things which were taught. The tutor should be able to motivate the student and make sure learning is not a burden and it's all about enjoying the subjects which he has too. As a tutor,…

Local Reviews

Was so easy to book and arrange, the tutor is consistent, reliable and patient. A great fit for my child.
Lisa, Seddon

Inside SeddonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mia focused on converting denominators to add and subtract fractions, as well as simplifying fractions for clarity.

In Year 9, Ethan practiced solving algebraic equations for x and reviewed strategies for factorising quadratic equations.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby worked through the distributive law of surds in algebra and reinforced her understanding by graphing linear lines using different methods.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was a barrier for one Year 8 student—"not attempted," the note read, which limited progress with dividing and multiplying by factors of ten.

In Year 9 algebra sessions, working out was sometimes kept in students' heads rather than on paper, so key sign errors or steps were missed ("pen to paper" needed).

A senior student brought neither book nor notes to revision, making it harder to practice manipulating equations and use feedback.

One Year 11 learner hesitated to check work after each step; small mistakes went unnoticed until the end, meaning extra time spent fixing avoidable errors.

Recent Achievements

A Seddon tutor noticed that one Year 11 student, after initially struggling with understanding the inflation formula and the difference between purchasing power and current value, began breaking down complex questions independently and set up a personal study log to track his progress—a big shift from needing step-by-step direction.

Another high school student who previously hesitated to ask for help now initiates discussions about challenging algebraic problems and has started keeping organised notes in a dedicated rules book.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who often guessed spelling is now confidently rewriting definitions and reading them aloud after targeted literacy practice during sessions.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We're very pleased with Rhowdry so far. Madeline is building a great rapport with her and they seem to work well together. I know it will take some time but so far so good.

Thank you so much for sending us Leonardo! He was brilliant! Luke absolutely LOVED HIM! I can't wipe the smile off his face, and this is the text he sent me soon after..

Rohini had really got Alex over the line and has boosted her confidence greatly. Instead of a low D she is now a mid range B and is feeling a lot happier.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Footscray Mechanics' Institute Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray High School - Pilgrim Campus.
