Tutors are there to motivate a student to achieve greater outcomes in life, principally in the area of academic study. Whether this is confidence, the knowledge that someone believes in them, strategies for studying and/or comprehension, through to developing initiative, self correction skills and the ability to constantly improve, tutoring is a…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to be a role model for students by teaching and encouraging them in all aspects of life. I believe that a good tutor would empower and inspire the students to strive towards their dreams and goals and support them in the process. I believe that I have a good knowledge base of all the concepts in…

A Maths tutor can help students have a better understanding of Maths and might make students start to enjoy learning Maths. I have the ability to transfer my knowledge to students and have an experience in tutoring. I had a year 6’s student who got good marks in Maths and could enroll in one of the best secondary schools in…

The most important thing for a tutor can do for a student is to constantly be encouraging, calm and understanding. I believe that creating a great environment for the student to learn is essential to improving their grades, outlook towards maths, and problem solving tools. I believe that it is incredibly important for a tutor to inspire their student to achieve their very best in terms of their academics. I also believe that a tutor can act as a more relatable source of academic help instead of a teacher; a tutor can provide more in depth help outside the class room. I can sympathise with the students in terms of…

I think that as a tutor, being able to understand the perspective of the student is crucial in educating them. Tutoring is a student-centred occupation and one should be able to assess students' knowledge in real time in order to develop effective teaching solutions. Another important tutoring technique is to be prepared for sessions. Whether it…

I aim to teach students how to identify their gaps and where to look, whether Google or Youtube or books or teachers. I will teach students study skills like note taking or flashcard techniques. Aside from the obvious answer of improving a students mathematical ability, I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is inspire a love for the subject and the confidence not to be intimidated when encountering a new, difficult problem for the first time. As far as my understanding, as a tutor, he/she always needs to motivate their students to think more widely and creatively. It is true, initially, they will fail several times. Allowing them to do it, will build their confidence for their future, which will be eventually worth it for their life. As a tutor, I am always friendly, patiently try to…

In my opinion, there are at least two things that a tutor can give some help for a student: 1.it is necessary for a tutor to teach students correctly, answer student's questions and response to student's enquires clearly and friendly. 2.It is important for a tutor to help students to figure out what is the most effective way of learning for…

I always say that the most important thing is being patient. I know that every child is different, so tutors have to adapt to each child and teach children in the appropriate way, since each student understands subjects differently. I am a young person, so I am able to understand a child in many situations. I am aware of mental health and the…

The most important things are: - to help the student become an independent learner so that eventually they do not rely to a tutor for academic success - to give them methods or techniques so that their study is more effective and efficient - to help the student learn how to prioritise what they need to get done (in terms of homework, study, or…

I touched on some of these points in my previous answers, but as a tutor I believe the ultimate goal should be to provide one's students with an academic toolbox in the form of an understanding of the fundamental principles of any given topic. By covering first principles, and providing students with problem-solving abilities, he or she can then…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is give the student confidence that they can complete problems on their own and be successful in their studies. One of the most important things a tutor can do is instill confidence in their students so they can tackle problems they were previously unfimiliar with on their own, as well as perform in high stress environments, such as tests. Inside Seven HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Rebecca focused on long division of polynomials and applications of derivatives, while also practising expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions.

For Year 10, Lincoln worked through solving linear equations and simplifying linear expressions, as well as reviewing probability concepts using tree diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Charlotte tackled sketching curves with derivatives and modelling optimisation problems, alongside rates of change—often using exam-style questions for consolidation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on linear equations struggled to keep written work organised, leading to confusion with variables on both sides—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 Maths Methods student hesitated to attempt exam-style questions independently and needed extra encouragement before engaging with polynomial long division.

In one case, a primary student's confidence dropped quickly after setbacks with fraction multiplication; rather than trying alternate methods or seeking feedback, he tended to pause and wait for prompts. This slowed progress during revision sessions and limited the chance to build resilience.

Recent Achievements

One Seven Hills tutor noted that Phoenix, a senior student, initially struggled with Excel-based data analysis but now independently creates scatter plots and uses regression equations to interpret trends—skills he hadn't attempted before.

Another high school student, Rebecca, used to hesitate when stuck but now actively asks questions in sessions and can tackle long division problems with minimal prompting after practicing together.

Meanwhile, Mikayla in primary years showed a shift from distraction to focus; she stayed on task for an entire session and completed all homework booklet questions without reminders—a first for her this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Seven Hills State School.
