PDHPE Tutor Kent Town, SA
A tutor's main job is to help re-explaining new concepts and/or help students consolidate new concepts as well as integrating new ones as they are being taught. Therefore, the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to explain new concepts in simple and relatable terms, encourage interests in a particular subject and most…

The most important thing as a tutor is to put yourself in the student's shoes and make sure they are learning and taking in something useful after every session. This makes the most out of their time and also helps to make them more confident in their studies, which also builds trust between the student and tutor which is key to making them…

Inside SkyeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Alyssia explored titration calculations in chemistry, working through molar ratios and using formulas like n = m/M and C Ă— V, as well as preparing for her exam with redox reactions and balancing equations.

In Year 10, Ben focused on quadratic equations—completing the square for more challenging problems and reviewing different forms of quadratics in preparation for his upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Jamie revised univariate statistics by practicing calculations of mean, median, mode, range, and was introduced to interquartile range.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student often relied on reusing equation formats and prior solutions rather than reasoning independently through new problems—"he tended to follow the set process instead of thinking about why it works," as noted after algebra practice.

For a Year 12 chemistry session, another student preferred to check previous working before attempting unfamiliar questions, hesitating to push beyond known methods.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student was easily distracted during sessions and lacked a clear plan for what to focus on, which meant less time spent engaging with key tasks. This sometimes led to confusion or slow progress when faced with multi-step worded problems.

Recent Achievements

Alyssia started the session needing help with titration equations but finished able to solve mixed molar ratio problems independently, no longer waiting for hints before starting.

Alessandro, in Year 10 Maths, arrived fully prepared with specific questions and by the end was confidently linking roots and graphing cubics—something he'd previously found confusing.

Meanwhile, Lucy in Year 7 has moved from relying on prior examples to tackling new statistics questions on her own after just a bit of guidance, showing real initiative.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Kicking myself for not starting tutor earlier! It would have helped tremendously with Jayden's studies and being able to work independently!

We had the first session with Nick today and he was fantastic! He focused on the right areas and really engaged with Yvette....I think we are on the right track.

Tabinder has made Leon come a long way in the last 2 weeks and he is quite proud of his achievements.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Magill School.
