The most important thing a tutor can do is not to flaunt their own brainpower like a flashy superhero cape. Instead, it’s about helping students discover their own hidden superpowers and showing them how to wield these talents for their own success. Think of it like being a treasure map that leads them to their own buried gems—helping them…

Important things a tutor can do for a student can be as subtle as providing the basic habits of Learning and self progression for the student. Many younger students struggle with this and tutoring can only go so far for them. Enforcing self-learning and the confidence to learn sometimes can be more beneficial than the topics covered. Personal…

I consider the two most important things for a tutor to do are to first inspire confidence in the student and identify the area of difficulty as precisely as possible. Students are generally not equipped to identify the precise area of their difficulty as they don't have the knowledge to fully place it in the context of the subject. By…

teach the student how to study and how to look for answers. most students are overwhelmed by the diversity of subjects and cant relate them together. I believe the best a tutor can do is how to classify subjects and become self-sufficient. I believe I can find the concept that the student Is having problems with and the reason they find a subject…

A tutor needs to be patient when tutoring a student especially in subjects like mathematics and physics since those subjects require the most assumed knowledge in high school than any other subject, students normally have trouble recollecting previous works. Firstly, a tutor can give guiding questions instead of displaying the answers straightaway. This way, the students can be prompted to think of a way to get to the solution. Secondly, I believe a tutor should build the foundation first before going deeper into the subject. I am a patient person. I would give time for the students to digest the…

I believe that a tutor should make the subject easy for the students to understand as each students learn in different ways. If a tutor is able to identify them and be able to make the student understand the subject then it is the best thing a tutor can do to help a student thrive. In my opinion, students are the ones who make progress and I, as a tutor, am only a guide and a motivator. As for me, motivation is much more important than knowledge. Every student can find possibly any knowledge available by using Google, but…

The most important thing that any tutor can do for a student is to be a good listener. Knowing a student's expectations is really important in planning effective tutoring techniques. Inside SkyeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Alyssia explored titration calculations in chemistry, working through molar ratios and using formulas like n = m/M and C Ă— V, as well as preparing for her exam with redox reactions and balancing equations.

In Year 10, Ben focused on quadratic equations—completing the square for more challenging problems and reviewing different forms of quadratics in preparation for his upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Jamie revised univariate statistics by practicing calculations of mean, median, mode, range, and was introduced to interquartile range.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student often relied on reusing equation formats and prior solutions rather than reasoning independently through new problems—"he tended to follow the set process instead of thinking about why it works," as noted after algebra practice.

For a Year 12 chemistry session, another student preferred to check previous working before attempting unfamiliar questions, hesitating to push beyond known methods.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student was easily distracted during sessions and lacked a clear plan for what to focus on, which meant less time spent engaging with key tasks. This sometimes led to confusion or slow progress when faced with multi-step worded problems.

Recent Achievements

Alyssia started the session needing help with titration equations but finished able to solve mixed molar ratio problems independently, no longer waiting for hints before starting.

Alessandro, in Year 10 Maths, arrived fully prepared with specific questions and by the end was confidently linking roots and graphing cubics—something he'd previously found confusing.

Meanwhile, Lucy in Year 7 has moved from relying on prior examples to tackling new statistics questions on her own after just a bit of guidance, showing real initiative.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Magill School.
