The most important things a tutor can do for a student is provide a personal learning experience understanding their strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, I believe it is important to provide a human connection, and be consistent such that these young learners believe their tutors really want the best for them. I'm very dedicated and would ensure…

Important things a tutor can do for a student is firstly, learning about them. This means identifying their strengths and weaknesses to create a learning-style which is suitable for the student. As a tutor you should also improve a students studying style and work with them to achieve their best. Tutors should help students build their confidence…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for students is making sure that the student completely understands the concept and does not try to rote learn it. I believe that a tutor is a person who can change the point of view of a student through which they can grasp the concept well and improves their understanding ability. I own…

Understand them and their learning habits. If a tutor does not understand their student, they can never excel at tutoring that student or almost anyone. Helping a student grow and evolve. A student can be thought of as a growing plant. They need the correct amount of sunlight and water to grow. Similarly students need the right amount of help if…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for the students is to motivate and encourage them to do their best. I believe that developing the learning capability of the student is the best thing a tutor can do because a tutor is only going to be there for a short run however their learning ability is going to assist and stick with them forever. A tutor can always support or help his/ her students, could take student's weakness in a positive way. A tutor can analyse the student's capabilities in a detailed manner which is very helpful to figure out the areas that need more focus and attention. Make the student feel safe is number one and to inspire a love for learning is the goal! Our modern world is built around education and every student can expect to experience a lot of it in the future. Therefore, it is most important that a tutor should model genuine interest in learning (both the subject matter and how to learn well), so that the student him/herself enjoys the process and is encouraged to become a lifelong learner.…

Inside Somerton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student James worked through NAPLAN Numeracy practice questions, focusing on relationships between fractions, decimals, and percentages, and understanding key terminology and equivalence.

Year 10 student Finn tackled probability concepts such as events and outcomes before moving on to rates, ratios, and proportions for an upcoming assignment.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex studied the production and transmission of electromagnetic waves in Physics and practiced numerical problem-solving alongside revision of integration techniques in Mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student in Physics mixed up formulas for derivatives and antiderivatives, leading to confusion during problem-solving—"he sometimes mixes up the stuff," noted a tutor.

In Year 11 Maths, forgetting key constants slowed down progress with numericals, while another senior struggled to recall standard deviation and variance formulas in Statistics.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student had trouble correctly labelling headings on the place value board, which made it harder to organise answers.

During reading tasks in Year 3, reluctance to participate meant missed opportunities for practice; one session required repeated prompting just to get started.

Recent Achievements

One Somerton Park tutor noticed James is now solving most maths problems in class after previously needing extra support and even started asking for more challenging questions.

Chloe, also in high school, has moved from hesitating on worded problems to working through them independently during sessions—she recently tackled several ratio questions by herself without prompting.

Meanwhile, in Year 3, Jye used to be quiet and reserved but has begun involving himself fully in lessons and now brings home books to share his spelling lists and writing pieces with real pride.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

So far so good. The kids are actually enjoying their time with Agnes so that's s good sign. Jaren came out of last weeks tutorial session saying "well you learn something new everyday". It just gives them more confidence with mathematical concepts, I think they're getting something out of it. Thank you.

Sofia was progressing and Sofia was very comfortable with the tutor. She gave Sofia a lot of help and her understanding of maths had improved and she learned to enjoyed maths, even the homework set and that surprised me. Thank you again.

Chelsea loves Melanie as her tutor. She is a great tutor, smart, very friendly, and very patient. She has all the quality as a tutor and we did like the way she taught Chelsea. Thank you so much for giving Chelsea the best tutor, we are happy with everything.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenelg Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart College - Marcellin Campus.
