I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to motivate him/her. Students look at tutors or mentors as their future or they get inspired by them very easily. Hence being that influential person is what I aim to do as a tutor. As a child, I admired my teachers and I got inspiration from them to do something which made me work…

In my opinion, it is important to teach children in simple ways so that they can understand even the complex and difficult concepts. It is also important to understand questions asked by students and give appropriate answers to their questions. Students need to be acknowledged and respected. As a tutor, I am a patient person and a good listener. I…

Be patient with them. All students are different but also everyone has the capacity to learn. It is up to the tutor to understand their students (how they think, their learning styles etc) and tailor their approach to meet their needs. Prioritizing the student's understanding as well I know how to work with different types of people from different…

For it's most important for a tutor or mentor to encourage asking. You won't know anything unless you ask for it. More importantly, this builds a person's confidence, which is especially helpful in succeeding. My strengths as a tutor are patience and perseverance. I do not stop until the end goal is achieved. I persist as necessary to succeed, not…

A tutor can do various things for a student. Being a tutor, he/she can be a mentor for the student, a friend and a well-wisher after his parents. Apart from teaching and contributing to ones academic life, a tutor can also prepare a student with other professional and personal skills, which the student might benefit from in near future. In my experience, there are two really important things a tutor can provide for a student. A tutor's primary responsibility to their student is to strengthen their knowledge of a subject, diving deeper into topics they may have already studied or simply reinforcing concepts they are struggling with. While this is the predominant purpose of a…

A good tutor will be able to make a connection with their student, and can understand their individual needs as a learner. I think that if a tutor isn't able to do this, then any knowledge they possess can't be effectively taught. I think a good tutor should also have a strong grasp over whatever they teach, and being able to teach is the biggest…

The most important thing a tutor must do for a student is listening. To me, there's a big difference between listening and hearing someone. Hearing is simply the ability to use your ears. However being able to listen to the student, understanding where they are coming from is a whole new skill. Math has always been one of my strongpoints back in…

I think identifying the misunderstanding and making sure their foundation is solid. As long as they understand the content, they will be able to answer the questions! Inside South BrisbaneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Charlotte focused on annuities and compound interest calculations, as well as interpreting mock test feedback to address specific gaps.

In Year 11, Ethan revised regression techniques in statistics and tackled complex questions from last year's external mathematics paper for deeper understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Olivia worked through logarithms (including change of base and log laws) and solved exponential equations, using both algebraic methods and graphing technology for practice.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 General Maths, one student repeatedly hesitated when choosing which finance formula to use, sometimes searching her textbook mid-question; as a tutor noted, "she did not remember some important formulas and should update her formula sheet."

In Year 10 Algebra, messy or incomplete working hid minor errors when solving for variables—extra time was spent untangling steps instead of building fluency.

A Year 11 Methods student memorised methods rather than understanding them: when equations were rearranged, confusion set in.

Meanwhile, another senior student doubted her own answers, pausing for long stretches before writing anything at all.

Recent Achievements

One South Brisbane tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to wait for prompts but now jumps into algebraic questions, often working through complex steps independently before asking for feedback.

In Year 12, Isabella quickly mastered the method for sketching and analysing exponential graphs—she even started explaining her approach back to the tutor, something she was hesitant to do last term.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who once struggled with large-number addition can now solve multi-digit problems on her own and has begun asking follow-up questions about how numbers work.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with the tutoring work that Adedayo has done with Harrison so far. He has quickly formed a great rapport with Harrison and are they working very well together. Adedayo has been very encouraging and has managed to give Harrison confidence in his abilities even though they have only had a few sessions together. Harrison looks forward to his tutoring and has positive approach to sitting down and working with Adedayo. We look forward to continuing the tutoring arrangements and positive outcomes for Harrison.

We are very happy with Aurelius, he has turned something that was "like another language" (according to Aaron) into something he understands and has found his first test easy. We intend to hold onto Aurelius for as long as he wants to coach Aaron.

I think one of the most valuable things I got out of working with Ezy Math is the skills I developed through being a tutor. I was learning a great deal by teaching others, gaining valuable and relevant skills such as effective communication, leadership, management and organisation. It was also extremely rewarding to witness my students progress and gain confidence over the course of tutoring them.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brisbane Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Brisbane State High School.
