A tutor should be able to efficiently teach their tutee, however the most important thing a tutor can do is to maintain or develop the student's passion for learning. They can memorise the content, but it means less if they forget it as soon as the exam is over. A passion for learning new things helps to make the content stick and make them want…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build a student’s confidence, provide clear explanations, and create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. A tutor should help students develop strong study habits and problem-solving skills rather than just giving answers, so they become more…

As a tutor I believe, anything that a student brings up during the session regarding their studies which they are finding hard to understand in school. a tutor should be able to help them no matter what as they’re the second option to go and ask help to after they’re teachers Listening to what children are trying to say. Figuring out what is…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide the constant support to their student. As tutors we need to be able to believe that a student is capable and we need to be able to constantly provide that support. My strengths as a tutor is being able and wanting to learn in different teaching strategies to help…

Patience is an essential quality required from a tutor as it is important to acknowledge that every student has a different level of understanding and approach towards their studies, and thus the best method of maximising their understanding is to tailor our teaching methods to motivate their learning and provide an encouraging learning…

The most important thing is to understand the needs and problems of a student and to be able to target these issues. As a tutor I will try to change the way I teach according to the requirements of the student, as not everyone learns the same way. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to teach them not only content but other essential skills such as time management and how to manage and organise content to maximise their ability to learn. A tutor can also use their own experience from their schooling years to give their students advice they themselves would have liked to…

Inside South WindsorTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Charlize focused on comparing fractions with different denominators using visual pie charts and practiced fraction equivalence.

In Year 11, Justine worked through circle geometry questions for exam preparation, clarifying key properties and relationships in geometric diagrams.

For a Year 12 student, recent sessions addressed applications of calculus to differential equations and interpreting slope fields using textbook examples.

Recent Challenges

In senior maths, one student often did not complete homework before lessons, leading to forgotten concepts from the Chinese Postman problem, which then caused confusion with Kruskal's algorithm during class.

In Year 11, a student admitted, "I need to prepare more for the lesson, as there were couple of questions that I didn't understand," resulting in missed opportunities for deeper revision.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student frequently avoided showing working when solving equations—this made it harder to catch sign errors and slowed learning new methods.

Recent Achievements

In a recent South Windsor tutoring session, a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to speak up is now actively telling the tutor when she feels confused. This meant she could tackle more independent work than before.

Another win saw a high schooler who used to need constant reminders now completing almost all her homework correctly on her own, only needing help with tricky terms like "cycle" and methods such as Kruskal's algorithm.

Meanwhile, in primary years, one student surprised her tutor by referring back to earlier questions to check her long division steps rather than guessing—something she'd never done before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hawkesbury Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Windsor South Public School.
