One of the most important things a tutor can do is to identify effective pedagogical strategies based on the individual needs of a student. For example, identifying a suitable progression scheme (such as deciding how much emphasis to place on sub-topics, and how frequently to administer tests/quizzes) which helps the student cover the learning…

Literally just be there. Learning takes time and it is important that we have someone there for us to see us through or t guide us while we are learning. Empathy. I tend to be able to relate to why others are acting a certain way and that includes me being able to understand why students make certain mistakes and hence I can then go about helping…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build confidence in their students. This means not just helping them understand the material, but also encouraging them to believe in their own abilities. Creating a supportive and positive learning environment is crucial. A tutor plays very important role in a student's life. A tutor can not only help the child in his or her academics but also help the student in grooming their personality and building the confidence to tackle the problems around As a tutor I am very flexible with my method of teaching. I don't restrict myself to one way of teaching. I believe…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to foster understanding, build confidence, and encourage independent learning. I think tutors have to have the appropriate amount of empathy to understand, not only the way they learn, but also their reason for learning. Best thing tutor can do is align his values with his student's. I think this is a way to frustrate and alienate him. I can approach a problem the way student does. This gives me an insight into where they…

Patience and understanding. Everyone learns differently, so it is important to provide students with the most comfortable learning experience. Additionally, it is important to be adaptive to not only the student but the curriculum. They are breaking down complex concepts and making it easier for others to understand. They are also, being patient…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to their problems patiently, before jumping into conclusions too quickly. Then, guide and lead them onto the right path. A good tutor should be able to support student with his/her grade and also lead the study in the fun way. Acting more like a friend than a teacher and make students love learning by heart is the most important thing a tutor can do. Inside SouthbankTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Nathan focused on NAPLAN-style questions involving ratio and decimals, as well as strategies for tackling worded fractions problems.

In Year 11, Maya revised specialist mathematics topics such as stationary points and rates of change using practice SAC questions, alongside a review of coordinate geometry and integration by substitution.

For Year 12, Jack worked through complex numbers in both polar and arithmetic forms and practiced exam-style questions covering trigonometric proofs and compound angle identities.

Recent Challenges

During recent sessions, a Year 9 student worked confidently with algebra but "the algebra gets confusing at times"—particularly when manipulating fractions—making test questions harder to tackle under time pressure.

In Year 11 Chemistry, the challenge was recalling key information and applying molar ratios in multi-step pH problems; summarizing details from long worded questions was slow.

One Year 7 session highlighted that turning word problems into equations still feels unfamiliar: starting these questions independently takes extra effort.

When reviewing tests, reading each question carefully mattered—missing this step meant some errors repeated, even after feedback was given.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Southbank noticed Alec, a Year 10 student, now shows more interest during sessions and has started asking questions about tricky topics instead of staying quiet—something he avoided before.

In another session, a senior student preparing for exams independently worked through curve sketching problems and used a stepwise approach to solve them, which had been a stumbling block just weeks earlier.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner who previously rushed maths tests began pacing himself better; last lesson he finished all his questions with time left to review answers on his own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We're really happy with Rachel, and Sophie is relating to her well. We are seeing positive results in Sophie's math grades at school already.

Murray has achieved 100% in his maths test recently so I am happy he has gained confidence and skills. Yoseph is great asset to your business. Thank you again.

I am very happy with Kavan, he is a great tutor, very patient and extremely intelligent.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Southbank Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Victorian College Of The Arts Secondary School.
