The most important thing a tutor can do is to spread the passion and joy that they feel for their subjects toward their students which will lower their stress but also might guide the students decision for their future career. I think tutoring provides an advantage for students to consolidate understanding from school, learn new topics early such that they are less confused in future…

I am able to identify the weakness in the students to assist and help them overcome their difficulties in…

- Reminding the student that the HSC isn't as dramatic as their school culture makes it seem. Instead it is just a piece of paper like any other exam. - Hearing the student talk about their weakness and uncertainties, and working on them immediately to have optimised for their upcoming exam. - Willingness to listen with any issues a student may…

The most important things that a tutor must do for students is to always demonstrate patience and love towards them. It might take time for them to understand the lesson so you have to bear with them. A tutor can make use of the two kinds of experience he/she has. Firstly as a current/former student himself, he can impart a deeper and thorough understanding of the subject keeping in mind the future academic curriculum and its practical applications. Secondly his experience as a tutor means a patient engagement with his student, where in the…

The most important thing a teacher in general can do for a student is to cultivate a positive mindset that they have the potential to do anything. Hence as a teacher, it is crucial to…

A tutor's role goes beyond simply teaching subject matter. Local Reviews

Matthew has become much happier to talk & often inform us about math problems & the confidence he has gained even at this early stage of being tutored is huge. Andrew has been a tremendous help so far.
Linsay, St Clair

Inside St ClairTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Olivia worked through simplifying fractions and foundational algebra skills, building confidence by practising with real-life number examples.

For Year 9, Ethan tackled surface area calculations for pyramids with rectangular bases and used bearings to solve navigation-style problems.

Meanwhile, in Year 11, Mia focused on applying the sine and cosine rules to non-right triangles as well as working with rates, ratios, and direct versus inverse proportion using worded questions for context.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student hesitated to show working in algebra, which, as a tutor noted, "made it hard to backcheck if an answer was incorrect." This reluctance left small errors undetected and undermined confidence when reviewing.

In Year 11 Physics, difficulty linking current topics with prior coursework meant harder HSC-style questions were often avoided in revision; time spent re-reading theory replaced targeted practice.

A Year 10 learner relied on being shown steps before attempting problems alone, leading to uncertainty and frequent second-guessing during independent work. Exam pressure amplified these habits—answers rewritten repeatedly instead of tackling new questions.

Recent Achievements

One St Clair tutor noted that a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to show her working is now consistently writing out full steps and even talks through her reasoning, making it easier to spot small mistakes and correct them independently.

In a recent session with a senior high schooler, the student was able to tackle challenging HSC-style questions in physics—he initially struggled with theory recall but, after some targeted revision, managed medium-difficulty problems without prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner who often guessed answers before is now asking for clarification when unsure and recently worked through all types of angle questions methodically.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy, I have referred 3 families at this stage to you. I am impressed with how thorough Monica's lesson plans are, and how they move clearly from low order thinking to high order thinking in a fun way.

My son Matthew has been a student of Arda's here in Perth. Arda has been fantastic and helped Matthew through the difficulties he was having. Matthew has achieved 93% in his last exam and his class tests have all been consistently high.

It is a great pleasure for us too, to see Vas enjoying his lessons, and trying his utmost hardest to listen and catch up. This is all due to Jake too, he is a very big favourite to Vas, he loves his lessons with him, as he explains everything they are doing till Vas understands.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Clair Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Clair High School.
