I think it is to provide a comfortable environment for them to express their issues in their study, because the reason why students need tutor is that they don’t understand something and cannot ask it on class, and the mission of a tutor is to be able to provide answers for these questions. I’m fun, energetic and always ready to talk and…

Be patient and actually encourage them to study and work hard. I like to start each session by actually asking them about their goals and if they have a set goal motivate them to pursue it. Explain it to them grades are important and make a big difference. Also, always let them know ask any single thing they want. The more questions the more they…

Be passionate about what you're teaching is the most important thing a tutor can do for their student so that they enjoy learning their subject and hopefully become keen to practice it after tutor hours. This can be difficult to achieve in Maths, especially in school. I think my strengths are my passion for Mathematics and my passion to see…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not teach them how to answer a specific question but to ensure they understand the logic behind the answering methodology. I suspect that this may be hard for some students at first but I am confident that they will be able to get the most out of mathematics and other…

As a tutor, I believe in catering to the students needs. Different students have different learning styles, so it is important to adapt my teaching styles to the individual. I also think compassion and understanding are necessary traits for tutors. Every student learns at different paces, and can grasp certain topics quicker than others. Patience…

Empathy! Having a tutor that struggles (hopefully not anymore) with a subject definitely helps because they are able to understand what you are doing through and are less likely to get frustrated that you cannot grasp a concept, no matter how "simple" it may be. I'm wonderful at communication, I'm patient/do not get frustrated easily, and I am…

Building a caring relationship in my opinion is the most important thing a tutor can do for any student. It is only that foundation can a tutor be able to deliver his best and at the same time the student will be keen to learn. It is the conducive learning environment that a tutor has to provide to enable the student to work to his/her maximum…

By providing personalised support, fostering a love of learning, and nurturing students' confidence and independence As a tutor, I believe my strengths lie in several key areas: 1. Adaptability: I can tailor…

A tutor's job is to build confidence and make learning feel rewarding. That starts with clear explanations, patient encouragement, and adapting to the student's pace. It also means modelling effective study habits and problem-solving strategies, so they can work independently. When students enjoy the process and trust their skills, their results…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do is give a student confidence in themselves. It is not the tutor's job to simply pass on their own knowledge, but rather to show the student that they had the ability to excel on their own all along. Tutors can do this by explaining concepts in a new way or more slowly than they may have been…

The bare minimum a tutor should do is to aid a student in their academic journey, however the optimal result would be for tutors to create an enjoyable learning experience for the student. Specifically in mathematics, I believe I have the creativity to come up with multiple approaches to a certain problem. Thinking outside of the box, I could show…

Apart from general academic support, I think it's very important for tutors to identify students' learning gaps, and provide constructive feedbacks. The most important things a tutor can do is provide a support network and assistance for the students both in and outside of academics. The most important thing that I can do as a tutor would be to make sure the kid understands everything that I teach. Each kid is different. Inside St PetersTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Scarlett practised breaking up four- and six-digit numbers in non-standard ways to build place value understanding, and explored how rearranging digits changes number size.

Year 11 student Sam worked through algebra basics, graphing linear equations, and used the law of cosines to solve trigonometry problems involving similar triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ella focused on quadratic equations—factoring and solving—and applied her knowledge to real-world contexts like calculating tax and depreciation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student expressed feeling overwhelmed by multi-step word problems, often unsure how to break them down; as one tutor noted, "she stated that she is often overwhelmed at all the information given to her."

In Year 10, missing key details in finance and algebra questions led to incomplete answers—skipped questions on a practice test remained unattempted until prompted.

For Year 11, not reviewing all test topics resulted in missed easy marks in rates and ratios, simply because those areas were set aside.

When reading exam questions too quickly in senior years, students lost points from overlooked instructions or misapplied formulas.

Recent Achievements

In Year 11, Kiera had struggled to confidently set up algebraic equations, but she filled out an entire interest table on her own after just a bit of prompting—she even tackled several practice test questions she'd previously avoided and got half of them right without guessing.

Raphael (Year 7) used to need help for every step with algorithms; now he completes most questions solo and explains his reasoning clearly when asked.

Meanwhile, Scarlett in Year 3 has started asking how to spell unfamiliar words instead of skipping them, showing new initiative during writing tasks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Peters / Sydenham Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Peters Public School.
