One of the most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to provide a new way of learning and being able to adapt to the student's needs. Whether that is by taking your time with the a particular student, or by encouraging them and pushing them to do the more complex questions. My main strength as a tutor would be my ability to…

My strength as a tutor is the experience that I have from the informal tutoring that I have done back in high…

Help them understand in multiple ways, teaching students to not be scared of a problem or an issue and help them face that challenge and learn of it which was one of the best ways I learned maths in my younger years. Helping Students see that in mathematics there is always more than one method of doing something, there's always another path of a…

A lot of the time teachers/tutors will try and give up trying to make huge steps and get disappointed when they don't get everything. I think a maths tutor needs to take small steps, and praise them when they accomplish something, no matter how small. It is important that they do get praise or they will be disappointed and not want to continue…

The most important things to consider when tutoring a student is being clear and being careful with each topic. Being patient and concise. Trying to elaborate and explain things when students get stuck on something or don't understand something quite as well. My strengths are that I am clear with people, especially kids. I think am good at…

The actual academics itself, while being at the core of the tutoring, is not the most valuable aspect. From my experience, most students do not have the care or respect for their instructors, and mutual respect in particular is essential, because mutual trust is otherwise close to impossible for many people. You must find a balance between being…

Tutors should be able to aid students on a personal level outside the class. I personally consider the ability to be able to break down complex problems into simple structured steps that are tailored to how the student understands, is the most important thins a maths tutor can do for a student. This will not only allow the student to clearly…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to go out of his/her way to make sure a student succeeds. For example, by making sure the student understands the material by either using different methods to convey key ideas or for the student to have constant interaction to the tutor and not just during the allocated tutor time. I…

While having a strong foundational knowledge of the subjects is important, I believe communication skills, patience and a drive to learn is what makes a good tutor. As a maths tutor, you have to have an abundance of patience because you are trying to assist with a concept they have previously struggled with, and hence may have convinced themselves…

I think the most important things that a maths tutor can do for a student is to present the lesson in a way that it is more understandable that how it is being presented at school. That way, the student will develop interest in the subject and will help understand the lessons better. It is also important for a tutor to understand where the…

My kids were never good at mathematics before I organised a tutor for them through EzyMath Tutoring. Their tutor made them think differently about approaching mathematics. Now they are confident in their mathematics skills thanks to EzyMath!

Inside StockleighTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Noah worked on understanding and comparing fractions, including solving word problems involving mixed numbers.

Year 10 student Liam focused on applying Pythagoras' theorem to composite shapes and tackling trigonometry questions about missing angles using the inverse function.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Grace revised derivatives from first principles and explored how to use the unit circle for finding exact values of trigonometric ratios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student was unable to complete a practice test under timed conditions and showed reliance on tutor guidance for each question; "he found some worded problems easy, but struggled to identify the right method in others."

In Year 9, another hesitated to show full working out—preferring mental calculation—which made it difficult to spot errors when checking answers.

For a Year 7 student, getting started on familiar questions was slow without hints, indicating a need for more independent problem-solving. These habits led to lost time during revision or left small mistakes uncorrected under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A Stockleigh tutor recently saw a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with worded maths problems now independently underlining key details and sketching diagrams before starting.

In a senior session, one high schooler—who'd struggled to recall formulas—could suddenly recite all steps for trigonometry questions from memory and even backtrack when he made mistakes.

Another upper-year student, after often waiting passively for hints, started openly asking detailed questions whenever unsure and managed to finish both familiar and unfamiliar calculus problems with only minor errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan Village Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like King's Christian College - Chambers Flat Campus.
