To understand the student first. And adapt to the method which he will be most comfortable in while you are tutoring him. The understanding between the teacher and the student is very important Iam very patient enough to explain to the student as well as I can teach them in such a way that they will be able to understand. Its also about showing…

In school, they teach students based on a certain method that suits a cohort or class of students, which caused some students to lag behind. I find that as a biology tutor, we need to identify which part is lagging behind, then tackle it together with the student. I am friendly so I could easily build a rapport with my students. I come in…

At a foundational level, it's most important to ensure the student feels confident with the material they're learning. As a first step, it's important for a biology tutor to assist in honing in and helping the student practice so that their skill level matches the basic requirements of the subject. Then the next most important thing a tutor can do…

The most important thing is to make a friendly and positive environment in which students can learn and express their individuality. in this enevrirnmtn there should respect between tutors and students that provides a safe place to learn. Listen and understand, as well as not rushing them but still applying pressure to their studies, most students lack confidence within themselves, so inspiring confidence within a student is a huge base step to learning. Having been tutored in Year 12 myself, I understand the importance of tutoring and the additional help, clarification, and understanding it provides. Tutors provide students with: - A new perspective on content teachers would not shine light on. - Additional information to facilitate understanding - Clarification on uncertain topics -…

In my high school days, i went to alot of tutors and i learned the difference between a good and a bad tutor. Bad tutors i believe stay within the box, afraid to go out and expose the students true potential. A good tutor can not only help the student keep on track of school work and assist in any difficulties the student may have, but also push…

I believe that a good tutor has the the ability to help students build confidence for the classroom, and inspire them to be the best that they can be. Another thing that is important to me is not belittling the student or making them feel "stupid" for not understanding, but instead relating to them and helping them find a different way to solve…

The most important thing to keep in mind when tutoring in my opinion is to help them gain confidence & enjoyment in the subject. If a student believes they are bad at a subject, they often won't try as hard because they view it as pointless. Confirmation bias can also lead to only noticing when they make mistakes, meaning they won't recognise the…

Studying techniques, creating good habits and of course, feedback for improvements! These are the important aspects that a biology tutor should show their students. Treat each student as an individual person. The same methods of tutoring might not apply on the other. Moreover patience is necessary. Tutors should maintain a pace comfortable for the student. Inside Strathmore HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Jonas focused on multiplication and subtraction strategies, working through examples to strengthen his calculation skills.

In Year 8, Louis reviewed negative numbers and basic algebra, using practice problems to build confidence with equations involving negatives.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Emily tackled linear equations in two variables and quadratic equations, focusing on factorisation techniques and applying them to exam-style questions for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Mathematics, one student frequently rushed through algebra steps, leading to sign errors and missed marks; as noted, "he needs to slow down sometimes and follow the steps."

For a Year 11 English assignment, another student didn't realize an essay required 100 words—skipping instructions due to not checking task requirements.

In Year 7 Maths, forgetting basic materials or over-relying on mental maths left gaps in recalling negative number rules.

Meanwhile, a primary student working on reading would skip lines of text and misread punctuation, which made understanding stories harder and slowed their progress during sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Strathmore Heights tutor noticed a Year 9 student who previously got stuck with negative numbers now working through these problems much more smoothly, only occasionally needing reminders.

In another session, a high schooler took the initiative to start writing down new vocabulary and definitions during reading—something he'd resisted before—which helped him read an entire stave without stopping for help.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 5 surprised her tutor by explaining each error she found in her own narrative and even started sharing thoughtful opinions about her book club novel "Wonder."

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thanks for your follow up. All seems to be going well so far . Anthony seems quite comfortable with Max and I think a little more confident . Of course it's still early days so we will assess his progress again soon.

Cassie is great! Ashley is already showing improvement in class and is happy with Cassie as she is easy to understand and can relate to her well. Thank you

Very happy with Luke at the moment. Billie seems keen and is interested in what Luke is showing her. That's a step forward for her when it comes to Maths.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Strathmore North Primary School.
