I think one of the most important things about tutoring is to help students not only understand what they need to do, but also why they need to do it, alongside techniques to perform well in assessments. My biggest strength as a tutor is my ability to explain concepts from the ground up. Because my own understanding of maths and science is built…

1. Providing a figure of support - It's important that a student feels comfortable asking their tutor questions and knows that they will be taken seriously no matter how simple the question may seem. 2. Encouragement - It's easy for students to lose confidence when they can't understand something, and as a tutor it's important that you can help…

A tutor plays a crucial role in shaping the moral values and basic manners of a student's life. Although tutoring primarily focuses on academics, I believe that tutors can significantly influence a student's overall development. Rather than treating the class as a whole, a tutor should give individual attention to each student, understanding their…

Apart from academics, a tutor plays a crucial role in shaping a student's life. It is important to encourage students to strive for excellence, take on responsibilities, and assist those in need. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is, teach a student the joy of learning and adapting to new problems on their own. This is so they can progress more by themselves and feel more independent and confident in their learning. The important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel more confident about their abilities and knowledge. The more they can back them-self, the more they can be composed in a test environment, the better they perform in test conditions, the better their marks. Like a positive feedback loop, this will also increase confidence;better…

A teacher's job is not just to give a student knowledge. But it's to inspire their student to learn and seek knowledge and understanding themselves. Identifying the individual's strengths and weaknesses. It depends a little bit on age but the older they get the more important confidence is going to be and giving the students confidence is the most important job. Tutors need to be patient, not every student is equally as smart, or equally as attentive. You have to find a balance. A great example I think would be is planting a seed. After you put the seed in the ground, you can put all the water in the world, but it's not gonna grow into a tree in just one day, just like a student, you will break the…

The most important thing I can do for a student is providing the tools and resources to be able to tackle problems independently, no matter the difficulty. Local Reviews

Danni was great and the girls were very happy with her.
Chris, Subiaco

Inside SubiacoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Sophia worked through division of fractions and simple interest problems, then tackled introductory trigonometry with guided practice.

For Year 10, Ethan completed a review of quadratic functions and practised trig questions from Chapter 11 using diagrams to reinforce concepts.

In Year 11, Chloe focused on dividends and price-earnings ratios in financial maths, also comparing share prices with real-world examples for context.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided writing out working in algebra, which made it hard to catch sign errors—"I suggested she write each step," the tutor noted.

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student struggled with organizing notes and remembering formulas without looking them up, so tests were planned at lesson start to check recall.

A tired Year 9 learner lost focus during revision and gave up on multi-step problems; snack breaks helped regain attention but progress slowed.

Another senior English student skipped practicing timed essays and left homework incomplete, leading to repeated pauses when structuring arguments under pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Subiaco tutor noticed a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to ask for help, started speaking up mid-lesson when she got stuck—making it much easier to clarify tricky algebra steps together.

A Year 12 student who previously mixed up integration techniques is now confidently choosing the right method and can sketch derivatives without prompting, showing real independence in her calculus work.

In a recent session with a Year 4 student, the tutor observed that he's begun using the number line unprompted for negative integers and managed several challenging questions solo by the end of their lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Subiaco Primary School.
