Encourage a student to feel confident in trying, stumbling and trying again. Learning should be considered an ongoing journey and the tutor should look to foster a relationship where the student strives to enjoy, have fun and gain knowledge and experience. Help him to go further and improve himself by providing better advice than a classroom teacher. As a tutor, I would be able to focus on my student to understand his strengths and weaknesses better than anyone. With this knowledge the tutor could provide advices focused on how to correct the student and allow him to have better scores easily. I'm…

Guide them. Teachers are there for cueing the child and help them enhance their talent and intelligence. Tutors can act as a comfort zone for a child where child can talk about his likes/dislikes. A child can then explore different fields before choosing the one. Being a patient person, I believe it is my biggest strength as a tutor. Also, I have…

As a tutor, I feel that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to have the ability to stay persistent whilst attempting to teach a student the concept or problem in the state. As a tutor, you must see your students learning from the sessions conducted and maintain consistency in maintaining their attention throughout the tutoring…

I think a tutor must put in just as much, if not more effort than the student. He should not only know the concept but also know how to frame it according to the needs of his student I can boil down a complex topic in simple terms. Ensuring your student is feeling comfortable and confident to try new things is paramount. A student needs to understand that making mistakes is part of the learning process. They need to feel safe and comfortable to make mistakes. I also try to incorporate the interests of a student into learning where possible. E.g. turning a math problem…

Being a good mentor and setback to the students on how to be in a society. Educating in the right way, making a person a very good being, developing the children's skill is what I think is the most important thing as a tutor. Inside SunshineTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Vincent focused on area, volume, percentages, ratios, and mixed numbers in maths homework review, while also practising reading comprehension and grammar in English.

For Year 10 Arshdeep, the lesson addressed motion on an inclined plane by breaking down gravity into components and calculating net force, as well as exploring the role of tension and drag forces using diagrams.

In Year 12 Chemistry with Ruby, revision included balancing ionic equations, identifying functional groups such as alkanes and alkenes, and applying mole calculations to empirical and molecular formulae.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student arrived for Chemistry without their class notes or materials, which made it harder to address gaps in ionic equations and electron configuration—he had significant gaps that will require further study.

In Year 8 Maths, one learner's workbook was disorganised and missing homework, so practice with fractions and column addition could not be checked.

A VCE student tackling comparative essays sometimes avoided using feedback on structure, leading to repeated confusion over evidence selection.

During a senior Methods session, rushing through complex number problems led to overlooked details; time was lost fixing these instead of moving ahead.

Recent Achievements

One Sunshine tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 physics student who, after weeks of staying quiet, finally started asking for help with concepts like time dilation—he now explains his reasoning out loud instead of guessing.

Another high school student working on comparative essays initially struggled to plan ideas but recently began mapping out argument structures independently, which is new for her.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to avoid reading tasks volunteered to read the next chapter aloud during their session and tackled unfamiliar words by sounding them out without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We couldn't be happier. Both girls are enjoying the tutoring with Jackie, and feel they are learning something new each week.

Kymberley has clicked quite well with Gayan and she seems to be very happy with him.

Annalise has settled and is working well with Sam.  He's a great tutor, very attentive and makes her think!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brimbank Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception School.
