I think a maths tutor can teach students some learning methods and think mode through which students can not only know how to solve a simple question but also apply these to the similar questions. First, I am a really patient and mild girl. If students can not understand what I teach, I will be very patient to teach them again and again. Second,…

I believe that a maths tutor's main role is to bridge the gap to make knowledge fun and accessible, and not a burden or "impossible" as some might say. Moreover, it is also to care for the students as well in a personal manner. My strength is teaching concepts in a simple and accessible manner so that my students are able to grasp it with ease.…

I believe a maths tutor have to encourage the student to think, ask questions, and work together with me in order to understand every problem clearly. In this way a student will be more confident and will build up a way of thinking that will be beneficial in the future life. Each student has a different way of thinking. As a tutor my job is to…

The most important thing is interactive learning sessions and developing an interest in learning. Creating that much-needed spark is important. A tutor gives direction and motivates students to do well. One-to-one interactive sessions are life-changing for students. Every human being is different. Same way, the approach to learning is different…

I think it's incredibly important to respect the student's individuality. All students learn in different ways so it's important for a maths tutor to be versatile and very adaptable. Explaining concepts in different ways, solving problems using different methods, etc. I also think it's important for tutors to make sure a student understands…

I think to build a relationship and to find the best ways for the student to learn. There are no right or wrong ways to learn and everyone is different, so finding that way is very important. I believe that for difficult subjects it is the job of the tutor to break the problem down into bite size steps for the student to grasp. This may not always happen at college and requires a good private tutor. Tutors can regurgitate the curriculum back to students exactly how most high school teachers do, however I don't think this is a great strategy. Tutors are given the opportunity to have 1 on 1 time with students, which has a much greater influence on the pupil. Tutors can use these sessions to accelerate their students learning, and ultimately…

Inside Surfers ParadiseTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Maya worked through linear algebra and geometry concepts for her upcoming maths exam, including **factoring** and practice with complex algebraic fractions.

In Year 11, James focused on applying differentiation rules—like the product and chain rule—and solved **optimisation problems involving maximum area using second derivatives**.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Alex prepared for assessment by practising integration techniques such as **finding areas under curves with the trapezoidal rule** and tackled advanced probability topics like the standard normal distribution and confidence intervals.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Physics, "Jack tries to solve most problems in his head," skipping written steps—even when working on forces and equilibrium. As one tutor observed, this led to "careless mistakes" and missing details in Free Body Diagram questions.

During a senior Mathematics session, he didn't double check long expressions or use backchecking techniques as advised, causing calculation errors that went unnoticed until review.

In both subjects, avoiding written working slowed progress and left him confused by multi-step problems; moments of lost confidence appeared after getting stuck or making repeated errors without visible working to trace the source.

Recent Achievements

One Surfers Paradise tutoring session saw a Year 11 student who previously struggled with complex trigonometric functions now confidently using both the chain and quotient rules to solve unfamiliar calculus problems.

In Year 10, a student who used to rush through exam questions has begun preparing thorough summary notes ahead of time and arrives ready with specific questions, showing new initiative in tackling difficult topics.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was hesitant to ask for help is now comfortable speaking up when he's unsure—he recently asked his tutor to clarify a confusing maths problem rather than guessing.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

My biggest accomplishment: Great kid in grade 4, energetic and fun to tutor, although lacked concentration and confidence in maths. I showed him simple maths tricks that no curriculum teaches (e.g. how to figure out 11 times tables to any number). He understood it well, but the biggest boost he had was the confidence he got from knowing something the other kids didn't. He started to enjoy maths a lot more and his scores and attitude improved. His care givers were very happy about it. I got a big kick from steering him in the right direction and I hope he carries on this confidence in all his endevours. With Ezy Math, what I felt was great were the weekly tutoring tips/themes. It helped a lot in knowing that there are many different approaches to many different kids' habits/attitudes (e.g. as above, just confidence boosting can greatly improve a child's performance). It was also great in having that as a tool to keep in touch and keep learning as the job progresses. 21st July 2012

Ezy Math Tutoring is a company that I would comfortably work with again as it provided me with the opportunity to work with students commited to improving in the classroom. Ezy Math Tutoring is not only a company that aims to help students with their mathematics but goes above and beyond to help clients with their general student careers, through the Continuing Education Program modules that tutors are asked to go through with their students on a regular basis. I liked the purpose they served. Ezy Math Tutoring finds great importance in informing the parents about their childs progress. The monthly progress reports help busy parents keep up to date with the work being covered and the overall progress of their child, which was the main attraction for me. If you are seeking a professional service that provides results I would highly reccomend Ezy Math Tutoring to any of the parents and prospective tutors out there. 22nd July 2012

Ezy Math Tutoring provided me with a lot of support, resources and training during my time working for them. I found teaching the students very rewarding and seeing the improvement in results really made it worth it. I would definitely recommend Ezy Math Tutoring for both prospective clients and fellow tutors as each will benefit greatly from this service. 23rd July 2012

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Broadbeach Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Surfers Paradise State School.
