The ability to help students learn and understand, a lot of students in class tend to say they understand, but may not actually understand, ultimately leading to a poor foundation as they move further into their studies. I believe my job as a tutor to help them ensure that their foundation is sturdy, have mock questions for the students which will…

I think first and foremost is adaptability. 2. Discipline comes after once you get adapted. 3. Communication with easing out the complex concepts. 4. Listening their problems and catering on them. 5. A teacher has to be patient while working with a student 6. At last but not least, humility is one of the most important thing when it comes…

Guidance. Knowledge would be useless without proper action. It's also a tutor's duty to encourage application of said knowledge so that they can use their own academic achievement to improve their lives, and help the world a better place. I have 2 greatest strenghs that would be of use for my tutoriing career. Firstly, my super duper energetic…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide them with the fundamental concepts and processes that they can use to solve problems and learn a topic. It is important to focus on a students understanding of a task so that they can apply that understanding to other similar tasks. My strengths as a tutor are in being…

The most important thing a tutor can do is approach teaching in a holistic way so a student can develop necessary skills - like interpersonal skills, to strive not only during high school, but once they graduate. A tutor should be helping their student to excel in their studies in a way that is supplementary to what is taught in school. Lastly, a…

Being able to teach the student not only about academics, but also preparing them for what is to come. I know from recent personal observatory experience how difficult starting Highschool is, and how large of a jump that is. I can also relate to the jump from year 10 to VCE, it is difficult and extremely stressful! The most important thing a tutor…

There are two most essential things that a tutor should do for a student: motivation and guidance. A student only find a tutor when he finds difficulties in learning a subject and is not confident in taking the exams. Therefore, the first thing that each tutor needs to do is to encourage the students to study and face their own problems.…

I believe that the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to allow the student to feel free to ask questions and to query explanations. This way, it allows for me to answer their initial query as well as giving me the opportunity to proactively infer other areas that they may not completely understand. My strengths are centred…

Remove the fear of not getting the one subject or one topic. As a teacher we must not just consider that two of our children is getting it ; but we should that why the others are not getting it . The student will get little from the sessions if they don’t find what is being taught to them as fun or exciting. Thats why as a tutor, you need to make them look forward to seeing you next, and ensure you always have a positive attitude towards their learning journey. A tutor can do many things, but the most important one is give their students the confidence to apply what they have learned to the best of their ability. You can guide a student through a dozen practice questions, but ultimately, it is more important that they see the work as approachable and not impossible to do by themselves. As a tutor I am…

I think having a good personality is the most important thing as a tutor. This is because an educator is supposed to be patient, calm and helpful in front of his/her students. If he/she can't do that, he/she will always be in arguments with the students and thus mutual trusts between them will be lost. I think I have a good academic backgrounds…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students feel safe to try, fail, and grow. Many students come into tutoring thinking they are "just bad at maths," and it's our job as tutors to help break that mindset. From my own experience, I know how powerful it is when someone takes the time to understand your gaps, explain things at…

Most students whom I’ve thought have confessed they gained more knowledge from me as they considered me to be more than a teacher as I had a great understanding from their point of view and tried to do more in class and reduce workload at home to balance their lives and education. This kind of motivation and encouragement can then build into other parts of the student's life thus…

Inside Surrey HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Tom focused on advanced financial maths, tackling reducing balance loans and effective interest rates, and worked through the steps of respiration in Biology.

Year 11 student Olivia reviewed matrix operations including inverses and scalar multiplication, then applied these to communication networks using diagrams for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam practised solving quadratic equations by both factorising and graphing, building fluency with real examples from his textbook.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly hesitated to start worded and application questions, often unable to choose which formula or process was required—on her quadratics test, she left many questions blank unless prompted.

Heavy reliance on the calculator emerged in statistics; when asked to interpret answers without technology, confusion set in: "she struggled with questions that could not be directly done on her calculator."

In Year 8 algebra, one student's working became hard to follow as he crossed out and wrote over steps, occasionally losing marks despite correct answers.

During a Year 7 session, another learner gave up quickly if shortcuts weren't available and avoided writing full working, stalling progress on multi-step problems.

Recent Achievements

A Surrey Hills tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with surds now breaking them down and simplifying on her own, even catching her own mistakes—something she'd struggled with before.

In a Year 12 session, a student who previously mixed up types of interest began confidently interpreting finance graphs and distinguishing between accrued and charged interest during exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student showed new independence by asking for extra explanation on probability concepts rather than guessing quietly, which hadn't happened in earlier sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balwyn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Surrey Hills Primary School. Contact us at Ezy Math Tutoring Surrey Hills, 6a Bentley St, Surrey Hills VIC 3127, (03) 9008 7011
