Ensure that if they are facing significant challenges with a specific topic, that they maintain a growth mindset, and do not orient their attitude to one of self-defeat. The most important thing a tutor can do is listen to their student and work out the most appropriate way to help them. Not all students learn the same way, and it is integral to make learning desirable and achievable through modifying language used, providing appropriate examples and supporting students to feel confident. My strengths are being…

I believe a tutor's duty is not to necessarily improve the intellectual capability of their client, but rather, guide them in a way that allows them to harness their own learning potential through customised, carefully tailored programs specific to the individual. Whilst this may not necessarily be viable for every circumstance, it is the role of…

The most important thing as a tutor is to be there for your student, not only academically but mentally and emotionally as well. I want my students to feel like they can ask me for advice on subjects that may not pertain to their education, but I want them to also feel like they can come to me for help when it comes to their academics as well.…

I believe two of the most important things a tutor can do for a student are help them gain some new insight and understanding into a subject, as well as try to inspire a genuine passion for the topic. As a tutor, I believe my one of my strengnths would definitely be my intense love of English. I'm also extremely time efficeint and organised, and…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them, create an environment that supports their needs, and push them just enough to allow them to understand they can do it themselves. My key strengths are definitely my persistence, patience, attention to detail, and my ability to encourage those around…

Inside Tanah MerahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Xavier focused on simplifying algebraic expressions and practiced key fraction skills, including addition and subtraction with mixed numbers.

For Year 10, Zara revised index laws and factorisation by working through her previous quiz results and extra targeted questions.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, Lachlan prepared for an upcoming assessment by reviewing statistics concepts such as mean, median, mode, and range using sample assignment exercises.

Recent Challenges

Several process-related habits emerged across different year levels.

A Year 9 student did not complete assigned homework or begin their maths assignment, with notes stating, "needs to prioritize his maths assignment more, because he has not made any attempts to the assignment yet."

In Year 7 algebra sessions, a reluctance to show working steps led to repeated sign errors—"he's very good at solving questions but we're working on making sure he shows all the steps."

For a Year 11 statistics task, incomplete communication with the teacher meant key concepts like Measures of Spread were left unclear and unaddressed before deadlines.

Recent Achievements

One Tanah Merah tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with algebra now finishing equations more efficiently and explaining her reasoning out loud, which marks a real shift from just guessing.

In Year 7, another student who previously rushed through problem-solving is now showing each step of his working and talking through the process—he even asked for harder questions after acing a quiz on percentages.

Meanwhile, in primary, two students went from waiting for hints to wanting to complete maths sums independently before asking the tutor to check their work.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan Hyperdome Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loganholme State School.
