I think one of the most important things that a biology tutor can do is to uplift students by reinforcing their own abilities. I have found that more common than not, students can come in very despondent because of being overly self-critical and questioning their intelligence. Therefore, I find by showing the students what their strengths are,…

I believe the most important thing for a biology tutor to do is to guide their students through a difficult concept step by step, and lend them as much assistance as necessary. Ultimately, the goal is to help the students to succeed. I have very recently graduated from high-school, thus I have a fresh understanding of what is taught and how it was…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to make sure a student can fully understand topics that have previously been difficult. I do not think it is not enough for a tutor to simply talk through the topic with the student and expect them to understand it. A tutor should explain the topic to the student and then, after more…

I am confident that an ability to find a right way to deliver an imformation is the best thing a true tutor can do. A tutor should be able to and simplify a particular concept making it easier for a student to understand. Kat, Tarragindi

Inside TarragindiTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ava practiced converting between decimals, percentages, and fractions, and solved chance questions using probability expressed as fractions.

Year 9 student Chloe worked through algebraic skills including expanding brackets and factorising quadratic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ben focused on the quadratic equation alongside techniques for solving linear equations and manipulating algebraic terms.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student working on polynomials needs improvement checking back over her work to ensure she doesn't make simple mistakes—overlooking this step led to avoidable errors persisting through solutions.

In Year 9 algebra, one student hesitated to trust their own working, repeatedly questioning themselves and slowing progress; as the tutor noted, he doubted himself constantly which doesn't allow him to reach his full potential.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student's maths written work was sometimes unclear because numbers were placed in the wrong columns during multiplication—this made it harder for both student and tutor to spot where confusion began.

Recent Achievements

One Tarragindi tutor recently saw a Year 10 student move from frequent mistakes in expanding algebraic brackets to completing every question correctly and without hesitation.

Another high schooler who previously struggled to structure persuasive writing now drafts PESTO paragraphs independently, remembering all parts without reminders.

In primary sessions, a younger student who once guessed during oral reading now pauses to sound out difficult words, showing more care and accuracy with each line.

The same student finished his latest story plan entirely on his own—something he'd never attempted before.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Tanay enjoys learning with Curtis which is a great thing so I am sure he will listen to what Curtis has to tell him.

Everything seems to be going well so far. Karl seems super smart and very friendly and Gabriel gets along with him well.

Jacques seems quite happy with the 3 weeks tutoring he has had and when asked says he is enjoying the lessons. So a good start.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Annerley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wellers Hill State School.
