The most important things a tutor can do to a student is to make the student not to need a tutor any more (Be able to work alone without assistance from the tutor). My strengths as a tutor include: 1. My ability to make young students independent of myself. 2. My ability to raise the interest of the learner in the subjects of…

Sometimes the same information can be summarised and presented in a different way that is just easier for some people to understand. My own capacity for learning. Understanding the individual needs and learning styles of each student is crucial. Also, fostering a supportive, non-judgmental environment is key for students to ask questions freely and grasp concepts without worrying about making mistakes. Lastly, finding alternative strategies for solving problems is very important if the student is stuck on a…

The most important thing a tutor does for his students is boosting the morale of their weak students and providing them assistance accordingly because every student has a different grasping level so, unlike a teacher, the tutor has to modify his teaching methods and strategies according to his students. I am very determinate and passionate about…

The most important thing a tutor can do in my opinion is be patient with a student and try and understand the problem from their perspective. By doing this, you are able to see more clearly the issue that they might be having. I also believe that finding the best learning method for a student is a key part of the role as a tutor, and this will…

I think the most important thing a tutor could do would be to find how the student learns, and target this helping them to optimize how they learn so they can achieve the best result possible. My strengths would definitely be communication and patience. I am a good people person and find I am an effective communicator and patient when it comes to…

I think the main role of a tutor is encouraging confidence in their students. I have found that most of the time my students know the answer, they're just too afraid to say it. Or they may be on the right track and need a little guidance to fully understand a concept, making problem solving skills another thing that I try to pass on to my…

Cater to their individual needs - some people fall behind in school not because they are "less intelligent", but because of the "one shoe fits all" approach followed by many of our schools. It is important distinguish each person as an individual learner, and adjust accordingly. I also strongly believe in comprehension over memorisation.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to their needs for their subject and pinpoint the exact cause for their frustration/ troubles. A tutor must be patient and listen to how the student feels and explains their material. Without this we can't understand where the gaps are in the students knowledge OR whether they really do understand, but just in a different way. I have infinite patience, I can adjust my communication style, and I when faced with something unfamiliar I have…

I think a common misconception about a tutor's job is that their whole purpose is to get their tutee an A+. While this is obviously a wonderful side-effect of tutoring, the most important thing a tutor can do is to develop and improve a student's ability to problem-solve, learn, and work effectively to complete their academic goals. The difference…

Imparting an enjoyment of learning something new. I am only with the student for a short time compared to their time in school, so increasing intrinsic motivation to learn has a much greater effect in the long run, as well as decreasing the chance of burnout due to stress in the higher grades. In the teaching phase, student-focused teaching would be my method of teaching, which is to discover what the students need instead of dumping knowledge, whilst showing respect and understanding. Acoording to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make a positive impact on his life by not forcing the society standards for learning and growing as every child has a different mind and way of approach to things around them. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is relate to their learning. A great tutor will adapt their learning styles and pedagogy to frame the student and enable them to learn in the best way possible. For example, you may have several students across the week, yet all of them are different. A great tutor makes an effort in…

Local Reviews

I would highly recommend using EzyMath Tutoring for face to face or Facetime tutoring. My children's confidence in maths has increased dramatically since we have been using them. Will our tutor is excellent! We haven't even needed to stop during self isolation!
Sarah, The Gap

Inside The GapTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Will focused on factor trees and their use in multiplication, then reviewed basic algebra concepts.

For Year 8, Viran worked through exam revision by tackling a mix of basic, application, and complex problems across recent topics.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Lauren practiced finding the area and perimeter for a housing plan assignment, using real-world measurements to apply geometric reasoning.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student repeatedly avoided asking for help until prompted, especially in algebra and electrical engineering—"he finds it really difficult to know where to begin"—leading to missed opportunities for feedback and slower progress on homework.

In a Year 8 lesson, the lack of clear written working in equations caused confusion when revisiting earlier steps; messy notes made it hard to track mistakes or improvements.

One Year 3 student still counted with fingers and rushed addition tasks, which resulted in frequent errors and frustration during basic arithmetic practice.

Senior students sometimes submitted assignments with incomplete or context-lacking notes, making revision more challenging later on.

Recent Achievements

One The Gap tutor noticed a high school student, Viran, has shifted from needing repeated prompting to now asking for help independently as soon as he's stuck—he used to wait quietly or guess.

Another older student, Rurari, who previously took minimal notes and stayed quiet during sessions, is now actively taking detailed notes and regularly asks questions to clarify concepts like the Unit Circle.

In a recent primary session, Tara moved beyond just identifying fractions; she can now confidently explain fraction equivalence and represent them visually without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashgrove Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Gap State High School.
