Science Tutor Grasmere, NSW
I believe the most important things a tutor can do are: Provide clarity: Break down difficult concepts into understandable steps, and be patient when a student struggles. Instill confidence: Help students believe in their ability to succeed by celebrating small victories along the way. Foster a growth mindset: Encourage students to view…

Inside The OaksTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ava practised long addition and subtraction, as well as dividing whole numbers and working with decimals by rounding and multiplying or dividing by 10.

In Year 8, James focused on solving equations with variables on both sides and tackled worded problems involving algebraic equations.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah reviewed integration techniques and applied them to finding the area under curves using recent exam-style questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, a student came to a test on geometry without reviewing key topics like area and perimeter—"only had one week before," the notes said—so gaps remained when tackling irregular shapes.

Meanwhile, in Year 10 algebra, missing summary sheets and incomplete exercises meant confusion persisted with inequalities and function composition.

A senior student working through advanced integration left harder questions unfinished; as observed, "struggles on harder integration questions and wording of questions." Without consistent practice on challenging problems or full papers, confidence faltered during assessments, leaving time wasted puzzling over unfamiliar question styles.

Recent Achievements

One tutor in The Oaks noticed a Year 11 student who used to mix up differentiation rules now independently tackles both product and chain rule problems without pausing to ask for help.

In a recent high school session, another student—who previously hesitated with trig identities—successfully proved two complex identities on her own, showing she's moved past her earlier confusion.

Meanwhile, a primary school learner who would wait for hints during decimal work started checking her answers herself and explained the conversion steps out loud before moving on to the next question.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Diana is terrific.  She's on time, very patient and Declan feels he is now understanding the basic concepts.  It will take time but Diana will get there with Dec

At this stage we are very happy. Nick likes Tharaka and his overall attitude to maths has changed. He is quite happy to give things a go. His confidence is building.

Suparna is lovely and very patient and Sitota is very happy with her. I think it will take a good few months before we see any progress with Sitota considering her learning difficulties. All positive and we are moving forward though

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wollondilly Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Oaks Public School.
