A tutor can make a student stress free by making learning so easy and interesting , that a student enjoy learning rather than running away from it. And obviously achieve good grades. I can make a boring subject interesting to any student as I make use of properties and imagination to teach the topics and make learning a 'fun learning'. I…

I believe that it is important for a tutor to be someone that can be there for a student when they need help emotionally, as well as academically. For many, being there for someone emotionally can be as simple as not knowing about their personal lives and just being there purely to help, while some students, I have found, need to talk about…

The tutor needs to make sure that all the questions of the student are answered really well. Most importantly, the tutor needs to be a role model for the student. Someone that he/she can look up to and be proud of. I have the ability to be extremely patient with my students which helps me gain their trust. Moreover, I can also induce self…

I believe that it is important to help students to understand how academic skills can lead them to their goals, and to encourage them to work hard, doing their best to make the most of opportunities that come to them. It is also important for a tutor to be able to guide a student through failure, and help them to deal with it, if it arises, while…

It is to build the student's confidence, create a safe space to learn without judgment, and adapt their teaching to fit the student' needs. It's not just about helping them understand a topic - it's about helping them believe that they can. The most important thing a tutor can do is to provide an interesting learning experience for the student such that they are motivated towards studying. That could be done by providing a lot of real-life examples where these complex mathematical concepts are used. In the end, if you can build up a student who is self-motivated towards studying you…

The best thing any Tutor can do is make a student like a particular subject which she/he used to previously dislike. This means that the Tutor has made a boring subject interesting to the students. To be there as a support structure, not just a tutor that's only available during the assigned time. A tutor is really another support avenue for a student's education is what I've found in my experience as both a tutor and a student frequenting tutors. The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to continuously encourage regardless of the results they get. One of the most important things a tutor can do is create a space free of judgment, as this will invite the student to feel comfortable and thus promote engagement and the voicing of questions regarding misunderstandings. The latter is essential to the progression of learning. Furthermore, I think it is very important to tailor teaching methods…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is give students the right direction and support so they can build confidence and excel on their own. For me, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to ensure effective learning. The student should master the lesson, and the tutor should also create a comfortable environment for the student by building a connection with them, all while maintaining a focus on the learning aspect. Other than that, confidence gained by a student is…

Inside ThomastownTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava worked on understanding decimals and completed a diagnostic assessment to target key numeracy skills.

In Year 9, Daniel practiced solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods, focusing on revision questions from classwork.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mia explored the surface area and volume of spheres and cones through targeted practice for her upcoming exam.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled to keep up with assigned homework, often leaving set problems unfinished—this made it harder for her to feel prepared before upcoming assessments.

In a Year 10 lesson, one student's maths notes were messy and skipped key steps, so when sign errors appeared in algebra, they weren't easy to spot or correct ("she needs to work on signs").

For a younger student in Year 6, reluctance crept in during long-division practice; she grew frustrated and started taking shortcuts on drawings instead of setting out her working fully. That shortfall meant feedback couldn't be used as effectively the next time around.

Recent Achievements

One Thomastown tutor noticed a big shift in Priya's approach to her maths sessions—she now asks questions when stuck, instead of staying silent, which is a real change from earlier lessons.

In Year 10, Bianca recently began preparing her own set of questions before class and worked through equations independently for the first time using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, Sophie (Year 5) showed persistence with her times tables: last week she took her time to double-check each answer and managed all 20 correctly without rushing, a clear improvement from when speed led to careless mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Thomastown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Thomastown Primary School.
