Providing quality feedback on their work and consistent affirmations are also considered important to me as this not only improve the students' academic result, but also their overall personal growth…

The most important thing is giving your student a safe space by listening and understanding them. Then building trust is next part of the equation. If a tutor is able to achieve above, students freely ask questions and share their weaknesses. Because they know they will not be judged for what they do not know and you as a teacher there to help…

I believe the job of the tutor is to make the student understand the importance why they study the subject and solve any or all problems the student faces. It is also the duty of the tutor to identity the barriers that prevent the student from scoring high marks and help them overcome those barriers. My strengths: I am passionate about what I…

To make the subject interesting to their students and instill a love for learning and imparting knowledge in them, so that they don't consider learning a chore and they genuinely look forward to learning. Their perception of what "learning" means changes to something more positive so that they look forward to it rather than shy away from it; this…

I think a tutor can give a student confidence, that a student doesn't need to be intimidated by a STEM class. The general attitude that these subject are 'too hard' or that a student 'will never use these skills again' sets up bright students for failure before they even set foot in a classroom. The most important thing a tutor can do is boost a…

First of all, seeing improvement in the grades is one of the important aspect. Although it is important, I would also want the student to feel safe to ask me any questions to allow them further understanding in the contents they are working on. For me, I consider "learning fully and safely" as the most important point. This will provide them the…

I think understanding each student is an important part to tutoring, and being able to motivate each student into learning for themselves should be the ultimate goal for any teacher. I've had some teachers that did that for me and I have them remembered always. I think students would like me. I'm easygoing and try to make the content appealing,…

A tutor should set a good example for the student by punctual, respectful and approachable. A tutor should help the student set clear goals and monitor their progress. Above all, a tutor needs to believe in the student's capacity for growth, self-discipline and excellence. I think that I am very structured. I try my best to relate to students and…

Inside TingalpaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Lily practiced solving exponential and logarithmic equations, including population worded problems and graphing transformations of log and cubic functions.

Year 12 student Ethan focused on matrix operations such as addition, scalar multiplication, and solving systems of equations using matrices, plus compound interest calculations with real-life examples.

For Year 10, Olivia worked through arithmetic and geometric sequences—finding sums, evaluating terms from tables, and tackling worded questions linking sequences to everyday contexts.

Recent Challenges

Several students across Years 7–12 showed challenges transforming worded problems into mathematical form.

For example, a Year 9 student "became confused when extracting pertinent information from questions," only finding clarity after drawing a diagram.

In Year 11, one student hesitated to commit to answers, often voicing solutions as questions—this uncertainty slowed progress in algebra and trig proofs.

Another senior struggled with organization: "Needs textbook, homework, and worksheets ready for each session," leading to lost time searching for materials instead of working on advanced calculus tasks.

A younger student avoided recording working during problem-solving, which hid where misunderstandings occurred and made feedback less effective.

Recent Achievements

A Tingalpa tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to freeze up at complex log problems now tackles multi-step equations without a calculator, even pointing out when the change of base rule saves time.

Another high schooler who was previously hesitant to ask for help in trigonometry is now comfortable voicing confusion right away, leading to clearer understanding of ambiguous cases in trig equations.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who struggled with multiplication tables has started multiplying by powers of ten and confidently uses strategies for tackling the 12-times table, finishing all practice questions independently this week.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Even though Brendan only has Gennady for a short time, but I can see a great improvement in his maths, also he seem to be more confident.  The feedback I got from Brendan is Gennady was very easy to understand, he tend to explain thing in a simple way, we tried many tutors before and wasted so much of his time.  I definitely recommend him for VCE specialist maths.

I would like to thank you for providing a wonderful service to us.  We were recommended to you by a friend of my daughters and this being the first time we had sought a tutor, we weren't really sure what to do or how to go about it.  You made the whole process simple and easy for us.  Even though the initial tutor didn't relate to my daughter, there was no problem with us changing to another tutor.  This wonderful young woman was just the right person for my daughter.  They both understood each other and my daughter approached her year 12 maths exam with so much more certainty and knowledge.  We won't know for a while yet, the result of the exam but my daughter feels very confident about it.

WE are very happy with Jades work with Tanisha, Tanisha is very comfortable with Jade.  Tanisha has improved with her maths so far thanks to Jades help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carindale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Tingalpa State School.
