A tutor should always seek to understand a students' capabilities and limitations first, before anything. A tutor should also always try to make learning fun and engaging for the student. Examples include bright visuals, kinematics and learning journeys. Lastly, a tutor should always seek to learn together with the student, an underlying…

The most important virtue that I consider for being a tutor for a student is having the patience to understand what they are expecting out of me, in order for me to give them back the necessary skills and training they require to excel in their domain. In addition to this, having a practical approach other than the traditional teaching style is…

The tutor has so many key responsibilities and actions to do. As he/she needs to aware that individuals are understanding, there should be effective communication, setting realistic goals, creating a supportive environment and also providing them a constructive feedback. In my opinion, guiding the student to being able to help himself or herself is the most crucial aspect in teaching. In other words, teaching the student to learn things on their own is what makes teaching so powerful. Firstly I am patient with students to a certain degree. This allows me to make the most out of the time I teach and contribute to…

In addition to teaching academic knowledge, tutors need to point out directions for students and divide difficult tasks into steps to cultivate students' problem-solving ability. One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be proud of all the improvements the student has done. It's not about congratulating them for being a high achieving student. Instead, we should congratulate them for any improvement that they have done, since that is one step closer to success. I believe one of my strengths is…

There are 2 jobs of a tutor. To make the student understand what they are learning and also encourage them to do quality practice questions. I also know the importance of practicing these…

The best tutors and educators remember the importance of being lifelong learners. I feel a tutor can help the student by personalizing the learning according to the needs of the student by incorporating connections to the students' interests. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. Never give up on students. I think teaching students how to be independent is something tutors must do. Prioritizing things like active learning wherein students get to question things themselves, rather than being spoon-fed answers is important. Making them learn that they can find the answers themselves if they put in the effort is important. And obviously creating all…

From my perspective of view, the most important things I can teach a student are the interests in this subject and finding pleasure from it. If that does not work, I will teach students the train of thought when solving different types of questions, summarise the key points and raise efficiency in their learning. I was raised up in another country…

Very easy to deal with. Lots of great tutors and they go to great lengths to match the right tutor to the students needs. If for any reason the tutor selected does not 'fit' with the students requirements, Ezymath are more than happy to keep trying alternate tutors until they find the right match.

Inside ToorakTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Raef worked through dividing large numbers by 8 using a breakdown strategy, compared fractions and decimals, and solved number pattern problems in his maths homework.

Year 8 student Lucette focused on surface area calculations as well as angles, trigonometry, and Pythagoras' theorem, tackling practice questions to reinforce understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Maya practiced solving linear equations and inequalities along with simplifying algebraic expressions using index laws.

Recent Challenges

A Year 5 student hesitated to write out full working for maths problems, saying "I can do this in my head," which led to missed details—especially in multi-step word questions.

During a Year 8 algebra session, work was messy and unstructured; the tutor noted that "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors."

One Year 10 student did not complete homework before the lesson and struggled to recall last week's concepts, making it harder to tackle new material.

In another instance, a senior student forgot formulas due to scattered notes and weak organization. This left her searching for basics instead of building on them.

Recent Achievements

In a recent Toorak tutoring session, a Year 8 student who used to freeze up with linear equations began working through problems without hesitation, even explaining his logic aloud.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student—who'd often skip checking her answers—took the initiative to review and correct every question on her latest maths test, catching errors herself for the first time.

For a younger learner in Year 3, games and flashcards have transformed times tables from anxiety into something he looks forward to; last week, he confidently tackled division questions that once made him nervous.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prahran / Windsor Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Geelong Grammar School - Toorak campus.
