I find the part where students are able to regain their confidence and find motivation in the subject as most rewarding for the tutor. It is absolutely thrilling to witness to process of my students overcoming the fear of the subject and to slowly learn to accept and enjoy the subject, thus learning even more effectively, in the end. My experience…

The most important thing a tutor can do is focus on the specific needs of the student, identify areas of weakness, and tailor the teaching approach accordingly. Students may have gaps in their understanding due to missed classes, inadequate explanations, or other reasons. A tutor can identify these gaps and help bridge them by revisiting…

Like I said, patience and comfortable environment created between the tutor and the student. Rest all can be taken care of by referring to the respective books and study materials. Interactive studies make students remember and understand topics really well. If a tutor can help the student to enjoy the subjects, then it becomes an activity which…

As a tutor, it is very important that the teacher becomes an inspiration to the student. A tutor can provide little tips and tricks to answering questions, especially in Math. Always be within reach, in terms of communication platforms, so that the student can clarify any doubts at any point in time. A tutor should also be flexible to the timings of the students yet not compromising on other students schedule. I am patient, clear…

It is very important as a tutor to understand your student. Be his silent friend and connect with him. Read his mental abilities, his interest, observe his qualities and disabilities, his way of learning things. And then try to impart the teaching depending on all these factors. Each student is different and so is the method of teaching. Teaching…

I believe the most important thing here would be to ensure the student understands what is being taught and is able to move forward in their learning. Tutors as facilitators must be able to give them the confidence that they are improving and can do even better with persistent practice and revision. I think one of my greatest strengths is being…

A good tutor needs to understand the student's needs and areas of weakness and work on them. A tutor can engage more in helping the student understand specific concepts and make the environment of teaching interesting. The teaching environment can be made interesting by giving the students a reason to learn the concepts and showing real-world…

Recognising what the student requires and teaching it accordingly is one of the critical teaching factors. After teaching a specific section, it is essential to question the student on the respective topics to understand whether the student understood the basic concept of the section I believe every student has a different capacity. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to put in time. They need to act as if it's not just a job which pays. Prepping lessons early, helping with questions outside of tutoring time, marking tests. All of these examples show a great tutor. - I put a lot of care into my work. - I love seeing others thrive through my help. - I…

I think tutors need to make/ help students feel comfortable and less stressful with their studies in school. Talking to the students and identify their strengths and weaknesses, and hence support them to improve and reach their fullest potential. I always try to adapt my teaching to the students. In my opinion, being a person that students are comfortable with to reach out for help is one of the most important things. A tutor should be there to assist them, not add stress or pressure to them. I also think it is important for tutors to motivate the students to learn, instead of just giving answers, and in motivating them, tutors should be…

I feel the strengths as a tutor are to help my students to set a high expectation, which motivates them to work towards that. Another strength would be to be honest and transparent with students about how to succeed. And as a tutor, it is our duty to make sure that students know you believe in them and want them to succeed. I'm a team player. I…

I think listening to them to make sure their needs are known and understood by all parties involved. This helps create a supportive atmosphere that can hopefully allow the student to reach their potential. Inside TranmereTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Sienna focused on simplifying fractions and exploring equivalent fractions, using visual models to reinforce understanding.

In Year 10, Nick worked through differential calculus problems, including optimisation scenarios and sign diagrams for first and second derivatives.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jessica tackled integral calculus by solving problems involving finding the area under a curve and also practiced interpreting results from statistics exam questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working on algebra was encouraged to organise her written work more clearly, as scattered calculations made sign errors harder to spot—"she may also benefit from organising her working out more clearly to avoid confusion."

In Year 12 physics, a student struggled with drawing diagrams for kinematics questions and matching variables, which slowed progress during problem-solving.

Meanwhile, several senior students (Years 11–12) arrived at sessions without having completed assigned homework or revision tasks; one missed all set networks practice, leading to time being spent re-explaining concepts rather than building new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Tranmere tutor noticed a real shift with a Year 11 student who, after often guessing when stuck, has begun actively asking for clarification and working through mistakes out loud—this openness wasn't there just weeks ago.

In another high school session, a student who struggled to apply the sum and product rule in algebra was able to independently factorise several challenging problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who previously rushed through addition and subtraction now takes time to check her answers, catching errors herself before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Joseph's School.
