A tutor needs to make the subject interesting and relevant to the real world situations so that the student is able to apply the concepts and the knowledge becomes ingrained in them. Knowledge of the subject and communication are my core strengths. I am also keen to learn and believe that teaching is a two-way process. I am thorough and make sure…

Student's improvement. I would like to raise the student's attitude toward the subject by , for example, giving them the applications and examples of the theories. I think I can adapt to the students' personality, understand their feelings toward the subject and how to make them want to study the subject. I also consider myself a patient person,…

The main priority of a tutor is ensuring the student understands the subject so this is what they should aim to achieve in any way possible. A tutor should be the extra level of assistance when the student needs them. Ultimately, tutors should motivate students to learn and be enthusiastic about learning, which is the most important aspect of…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is ensuring his/her availability when they need it the most, in short being accountable to them. Apart from helping them learn the concepts, a tutor must ensure that they can give enough time to solve children's problems be it subject related or something else which can be personal. The tutor…

Be understanding. We are all part of the learning process, both the student and the tutor. Respect the student and respect the tutor. I like to teach 1-on-1 simply because I can try and personalize the manner in which I teach the student, to help them understand concepts in their own way. Additionally, I believe that I am quite emotionally…

Be able to come up with a of going about problems that arise in mathematics in a way that works for the student as each student is different. I count my ability to make sure a person is comfortable and feel as though they are able to talk freely with me at any time as a strength, a weakness would be when I find it difficult in making someone…

Lay a proper foundation of basic concepts. It is not enough to give them shortcuts to quickly solve problems. Shortcuts are handy when practicing for quizzes and tests, and they also will help a student understand the concepts. But I think a tutor should strive to cater their teaching to aim to provide a student a solid understanding of the…

I think it is extremely important to treat a student with respect. The best thing a tutor can do is help a student work it out at their own level. While it can be easy to just explain it in general terms, figuring out how the student learns is very important. I am fairly amicable, meaning I can form a connection with the student which can help with teaching them. I'm also good at understanding written…

Inside TravancoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Max focused on multiplying and dividing mixed numbers, converting between improper fractions and decimals, and practised placing decimal points accurately during operations.

In Year 8, Lola tackled triangle side length and angle problems using trigonometric formulae like arcsin, as well as analysing literary themes and preparing essay arguments for her assessment on Brave New World.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Max reviewed substitution into graph formulae, worked through coordinate geometry questions involving negative number laws and exponentials, and reinforced his understanding by reading textbook problems aloud.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student often skipped back-checking their work on fractions and division, leading to repeated errors—he tries to add and subtract denominators, as he always forgets to first find a common denominator.

In VCE Chemistry, exam revision was left until the last minute, causing stress and limited time for consolidation.

Meanwhile, in Year 10 English, another student hesitated to express opinions in essays and defaulted to quoting texts instead of expanding on their own ideas. This pattern resulted in less developed arguments during class discussions and slower essay planning under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Travancore noticed Violet, a senior student, has started coming to each session with her own targeted questions and is now quick to ask for clarification when she's unsure—something she hesitated to do before.

In Year 9 maths, Max showed new independence by reading content himself first and diving straight into homework without prompting, which made the lesson more productive than usual.

For a younger student, Matthew breezed through a reading comprehension task that used to slow him down, showing how his practice is making these activities much smoother.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Flemington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Flemington Primary School.
