Helping the student understand, because I always believe if they could understand the topic, they can continue to answer the rest of the questions on their own. I also believe that making the student like to study is one of the important thing of a tutor, because sometimes tutors can be too strict and make the child feel like its just another…
I believe patience and perseverance are the two most important qualities every tutor needs. As a student, I learnt skills at a slower pace than my peers. Thanks to my patient and determined lecturers and tutors, I have reached university. I will do my level best to show the same skill to my students. Being a student right now is one of my…
To me, the tutor and the student must establish a clear and achievable goal, tailored to the students capabilities. The tutor must also be able to provide constructive feedback, highlighting any commendable strengths and suggesting and working on areas in need for improvement. Ultimately, the tutor must inspire a positive attitude towards…

Things I would consider very important: Being patient, teaching the student how to problem solve instead of memorising answers, teaching the student how to be independent learners. I have a strong ability to break down complicated concepts in a way that is very easy to understand. Also, I have a magnetic personality that ensures tutoring with me…
To be honest, patient and have a never gave up attitude. Because some students may have high skills or thinking capacity and they may ask doubts that I don't know about, in such cases be honest to them don't give them wrong information but try your level best to clear there doubts. But, in some cases you may meet student of very poor understanding…

I believe it would be to clearly identify where the student is lacking and how best to tackle that specific weakness. Then from there take it one step at a time till the student is comfortable enough to increase the pace. The key is to subtly increase the pace such that they wont notice or get overwhelmed. Given my education and occupation, I have…
To teach them how to be an independent learner and cope with dealing with new problems and how to approach them, with a problem solving mindset and confidence. Being able to quickly identify the students method of learning and approaching problems and adapt to that in order to maximize the productivity of the time I am with them and to minimize…
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is not only understanding the students well, but also knowing how much the student knows, and being able to convey lessons well. Patience and perseverance with students. Ability to understand the needs of different types of students and handle them…
I consider the most important thing a tutor can do is to personalise the teaching to each student. Everyone learns differently and have different strengths and weaknesses, so it only makes sense that every student will not learn effectively from the same teaching methods. My strengths are my ability to explain concepts or formulas in a way that…

A tutor should provide a space where students feel okay about asking questions and admitting when they're unsure. It's not just about giving answers, it's about helping students find solutions themselves. Encouraging students to see mistakes as learning opportunities is also key. Building their confidence in their own abilities is one of the most…
The most important thing is to motivate to them so that they want to learn, instead of thinking that studying is just for the sake of having good results in school. This will help in the long run, as one should never stop learning. I am able to guide my students by having different ways of explaining things if they don't understand at first and to…
From my experience, the desire to learn and succeed must come from within, but once that feeling is there it is the tutor's responsibility to cultivate and grow this passion and to translate it into continuous improvement.
Hence, one of the most important things that a tutor can do is understand the student's needs and to meet those needs in a…
The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be understanding and patient. Being impulsive and not accomodating for the students needs will only negatively impact the student and overall his learning. Every tutor should move at a students own pace to ensure the student has understood the concepts and can master the subject. A tutor…
In primary, tutoring often targets core arithmetic—addition, subtraction, times tables, fractions, and building number sense—while also pushing for deeper comprehension, not just rote rules. High school sessions shift to algebraic thinking, graphing, interpreting questions, and developing strong exam strategies. There’s a big emphasis on breaking down word problems, revisiting tricky homework, and test prep for NAPLAN or semester exams, always tailored to what each student finds hardest right now.
Recent Challenges
Some primary students rush through comprehension or maths tasks without fully reading instructions, leading to incomplete or off-target answers. In high school, it’s common for students to have scattered or unclear working, which makes multi-step problems harder to check and fix. Other frequent hurdles include forgetting materials, leaving homework unfinished, or spending revision time catching up on missed basics instead of moving forward—all of which can hold back progress and lead to confusion.
Recent Achievements
Tutors are noticing students becoming more proactive during lessons—regularly checking their own work, spotting errors, and making corrections without being asked. There’s a clear shift toward students verbalising their steps in maths and explaining their reasoning aloud, rather than rushing through problems. Tutors also report that learners are reviewing their test results with more care and taking the initiative to improve, showing greater confidence and ownership of their progress.
What they say about our tutoring
Hi Erica, thank you for your email. Things have started well with Jacob and hopefully they will continue in the same way. I think in this case, the difference for Jamie is that she can ask Jacob about a problem that she is struggling with and he can answer her straight away. Vivian was able to answer her too but it took her longer and I think the time factor was what was frustrating Jamie. As I'm sure you are aware in year 12 there is such a time crunch that any delays just add more pressure.
Hi Erica
Thanks for the email. Yes, everything is going very well. Daniel is finding Yuta to be very helpful and has definitely been able to identify areas of weakness that require work.
We are all very pleased with the progress to date.
Morgan has responded very well already with Hazel. Â She said her explanations of problems has made her maths much more easier.
We are very happy with Hazel.
