I think to be able to personalise teaching plans and tailor tutoring sessions to the specific learning needs & strategies of each individual student is crucial to achieve the best learning outcome and get the most out of tutoring from the perspective of the student. Aside from that, a biology tutor should have good listening skills, creativity,…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do for their student is ensure that the student has gained the ability to consolidate the information taught. The student must be able to reproduce the content learned in their own words at their own time. Specifically for English, many students have wonderful, original ideas in their minds, however,…

I believe that it is important for tutors to be passionate about teaching. This way, it is easier for the student to gain interest in the subject, which ultimately leads to better performance from the student as they are more motivated to study and learn. I also think that it is important for tutors to create a comfortable learning environment for…

Understanding and learning about the child's needs and adapting your teaching style to best suit their needs. It is also important to develop a trusting relationship in which the child knows that the tutor is there to provide them with the best support they can offer to aid their learning. I consider the ability to communicate in the student's eye level to be the essential as a biology tutor. For example, a tutor should be able to support students based on their level of education and motivation. My strength as a tutor is my ability to communicate and explain difficult concepts as simple as possible. Also, I take tutoring as an…

I think that being able to build a rapport with the student is one of the fundamental skills to be a good tutor. This lays the foundation for the student being comfortable in asking questions to the tutor, as well as the tutor finding a teaching style that is most suited to the student. Besides helping them understand and learn a topic, the tutor should also help the student master the topic through mastery learning. The tutor should also help the…

Listening to the students is the most important things a biology tutor can do. Not everyone can study at the same pace or method. Listening to them…

Tutors are expected to bolster student grades however this is not their true purpose, A tutor should help to develop students to not only achieve greater marks but also to have a greater understanding of the field they are being tutored in. This should extend beyond the tutoring time as the student develops the skills required to support…

1. The most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is help them become more confident with themselves about their ability to achieve the grade they want in the subject they want. Know your stuff. Always. As simple as it might sound, really bringing your students a reliable foundation of knowledge on the subject is always crucial. Michelle, Tusmore

Inside TusmoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Armando reviewed bivariate statistics, focusing on exponential regression and interpreting normal distributions using calculator-based practice.

For Year 11, Lucy worked through linear programming problems including constructing feasible regions and applying the simplex algorithm to assignment scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mark focused on exam revision by tackling a range of financial mathematics questions, such as superannuation calculations and comparing loan options.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often wrote out solutions in their head instead of on paper, making it hard to spot calculation slips—showing all steps would help catch small errors before they add up.

In Year 10, messy working and unclear labels when copying matrices led to confusion during revision, especially under time pressure.

A senior student preparing for exams relied heavily on a calculator for financial maths but occasionally entered the wrong sign, affecting accuracy with compound interest questions.

After setbacks in algebra tests, one Year 9 learner became hesitant to attempt harder problems without reassurance, slowing progress.

Recent Achievements

One Tusmore tutor recently saw a Year 11 student move from hesitating to ask for help with algebraic concepts to confidently identifying gaps and requesting clarification on her own, especially around fractions—something she used to avoid.

Another high school student who had previously struggled with test revision now organises his own practice sessions and shared two recent B+ results, having also pinpointed areas for further improvement without prompting.

In a primary session, Addison tackled challenging worksheet problems independently, attempting even unfamiliar questions before seeking assistance when stuck.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Ezy Math Tutoring was an excellent service for my daughter who had been finding maths hard.   It provides one on one tuition at the home of the student and the tutors tailor the work directly to the needs of that student.    I recommend Ezy Math Tutoring as it is well organised,  efficient and highly convenient.    Our tutor was very patient and helpful and our daughter's maths grades improved.  In addition, we received progress reports, and information regarding further maths resources.

Ally seems to have settled in very well with Ben and enjoys learning with him. She finds that he is easy to understand and explains mathematical concepts well.

We are very happy with the way things have started with Todd. India is finding her sessions very helpful and Todd is very patient and constructive.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burnside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Burnside Primary School.
