What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Being able to share my knowledge and able to see and experience the growth and improvement of my students, both in their confidence and their knowledge of their studies.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I’ve been on both sides of the coin. I went to a multitude of tutoring & coaching schools throughout senior high, so I know what differs helpful tutors & smart tutors. Helpful tutors teach from the student’s perspective, & cater all content to fit the student’s needs & interests. Smart tutors may only explain the content without truly understanding the student. I cater all work from their perspective, by making sure we tick all the boxes necessary to catch up & keep up with the work, but also make sure they’re having fun & enjoying studying rather than having it as a compulsory activity.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe it is extremely important for a tutor to have similar hobbies or experiences to the student so that the student feels comfortable and safe by taking out the power balance many often feel between their tutor or teacher. This also helps as content taught in our sessions will flow better, and create more engagement from the student. Having a connection as a mentor or tutor will help the student to be more confident in their dreams or goals, and be able to have more self esteem in their studies and in themselves too.

multiplication: all students struggle to remember multiplication however in year 5 she should no longer be struggling, so we will try to catch up with her classmates. We will also continue to time her as this can build pressure for her to learn well. I have been using the guess and check method with her but this is not helpful in the long run. It is also crucial she does extra timetables in her own time for her own benefit.
Veronica is still new to fractions but she is becoming more comfortable with the formulas and ways in which we can get the answer.

She needs to catch up on some timetables - such as memorisation, 8 minutes for 32 timetables is too long and won't benefit her in the long run, so I will input more multiplication activities to speed up her efficiency and help her catch up to her level. I have also given her more factorising homework as that will help her find the connections between factors and multiplication/division.

Veronica can work well with new concepts and tries to use her solving problem knowledge to help her. She has a solid understanding of pre-grade 5 maths and has her own ways to complete questions. She is eager to learn and open to new solutions.
Veronica needs to improve her mental maths, specifically on multiplication and division. While it is good to see her know many ways to divide, it would be even more helpful to have all the numbers stored in her memory. I will introduce a YouTube song to help her with this.

Viktoria has improved her understanding of 2D geometry over the past few weeks but still requires some quick reminders on the first steps. She has a very creative mind and is eager to learn. She has some very imaginative ideas for creative writing.
Although we continue and have covered simplifying fractions in the past and present, I strongly encourage more revision worksheets for Viktoria as she has not fully understood/memorised how to do this yet. She still requires my guidance or something to copy the format with. Simplifying fractions will always be used in math, and if she struggles now with the basics, she will struggle with algebra and harder maths such as calculus, so it is crucial for us to manage her understanding to a highly confident level. I will provide at least 1 worksheet of Simplifying Fractions per week so she can become confident to complete the questions without any guidance. For creative writing, Viktoria needs to think through the question more carefully to understand what is required to answer well. For example, if the question asks for a detailed description of a character, she will need to not only describe the features but also incorporate the 5 senses into her description so that she will 'show, not tell'. Many students struggle to transition from simple recounts to figurative language, so we will continue to work on this over the next few lessons.
