Aanika has a strong grasp on addition and subtraction of fractions, and when prompted is able to accurately identify opportunities for simplification. She has consistently correct working, and the few mistakes made were due to errors with writing out thinking rather than comprehension.
While doing multiple choice questions Aanika was able to remember the process for addition of fractions, however when we got to written questions she had to go back, implying that she has learnt the rule rather than the reasoning, or does not consider using reasoning to find a rule rather than checking. This can be fixed by taking time in tutorials to explain the reasoning behind rules, and prompting her to consider other ways to problem solve rather than checking notes. She also tends to forget to simplify fractions, as she completes the working out and does not check over her work or answers, something that can be improved by practicing a routine around problem solving.
