What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I love the opportunity to make a positive impact on students' lives by helping them understand new concepts and build confidence in their abilities. I find it fulfilling to see students succeed and overcome challenges, knowing that I have played a role in their academic growth. Additionally, I enjoy being able to create a love for learning for students, even if it's just making it a less stressful experience for them.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe my greatest strengths as a tutor lie in my passion for teaching and my ability to connect with students. I genuinely enjoy helping others understand new concepts and find solutions to challenging problems, guiding them to think critically. My patience and empathy allow me to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as I know that what may seem simple for myself could be something that is incomprehensible to younger/more inexperienced students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
To be able to truly listen to a student about what exactly they are struggling/worried about, and help them gain confidence in their own abilities. For students that are already doing quite well academically, the best thing a tutor could do is enhance their curiosity for knowledge and help them extend their knowledge. Most of all, making learning more enjoyable, reducing the fear that may come with it!

Overall Alex seemed to understand everything I went through pretty well. Throughout the lesson I asked him to recall certain parts we had previously gone through to help reinforce what he had learnt. After a while he managed to get the hang of it and answered the questions fairly confidently which is great to see
As we were just starting on the topic there isn't much he seems to be struggling with, he just needs to make sure he goes over what we did today and keep up to date with his class to ensure he doesn't fall behind

This was a bit of a rushed session as I was not aware that Siena's exam was tomorrow however we did our best to cover as many areas she was struggling with as possible. Siena seems to generally be alright with the probability section. She was able to draw and use tree diagrams to determine the probability of events without replacement, knowing how to multiply the individual probabilities to determine the overall probability. As Siena struggled with collecting and simplifying like terms in the past, I suggested to start off by highlighting the different like terms to make it clear which she has to subtract/add together. This seems to have worked quite well as Siena found it a lot clearer to simplify the expressions. We went over multiplying and dividing algebraic fractions again as Siena struggled with them in the past. She remembered to keep, change, flip for division which is great, and also recalled how to cancel out common factors and multiply across for both the numerator and denominator. We also did some questions that required Siena to factorise beforehand which she was able to follow along really well as I explained why this was needed. Although she was a little unsure if she worked out the linear inequalities questions correctly, she didn't make any mistakes and worked them out really quickly which was great to see!
We did not go through much of the measurement content as Siena wanted to focus more on probability and algebra, but we did go over a lot of the relevant formulas for area and perimeter, which she just needs to practice using. For probability, she needs to get used to the formula to calculate conditional probability and use this to work out if events are independent. Other than that, she just needs practice getting familiar with the questions types, especially worded questions. For algebra, looking at her past tests, Siena's mistakes tend to be careless mistakes so she just needs to make sure she watches out for these, especially her negatives.

Siena could determine whether a point lies on a line by herself, by substituting the x and y-coordinates into a linear equation and simplifying to determine if the statement is true. This is a great improvement from last lesson as she did not need any promoting from me which she previously did. She is very comfortable with finding the gradient, distance and midpoint when given two points as well. Once she has determined the gradient and y-intercept, or x and y-intercepts, she is also fine with graphing the line.
Siena has trouble with finding the gradient and y intercept when y is not isolated. She forgets that she has to solve for y before looking at the rearranged equation to find the gradient and y-intercept. We did a lot of these questions today's lesson and I got Siena to keep verbally repeating 'get y by itself' every time we came across a question to hopefully reinforce it. After Siena remembers this, she is usually fine for the rest of the question so as long as she remembers this in her test she should be fine for these types of questions. She also needs to remember she cannot find the x-intercept from the equation, and must instead make y=0 to solve for x. Again, once she remember this, she is usually fine with finishing off the question herself.
