What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
My favourite element of tutoring is the experience of seeing a child understand something for the very first time. There is nothing more special than seeing their face light up with the recognition that they really can do it after all! I love meeting new kids and getting to learn about what makes them excited, every child is unique and if given the right tools and pathways, can be just as excited about learning as us!!
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
One strengths is my ability to work with children of all ages and create a fun and positive environment for learning. As well as having many years of volunteer tutoring experience, I have also worked for a number of years at a school camp so I'm very comfortable and accustomed to working with kids. I am also very independent, I started volunteering at 13 and continued through COVID where we were offered very few resources. Due to this, I have developed an good understanding of how to craft my own lessons catered towards the needs of individual students to help them achieve their goals.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing a tutor can do is influence a child's attitude towards learning. A lot of kids are very demoralised with regard to the idea of learning itself, let alone individual components of a subject. Often times you hear "I can't do this", when really we should be teaching kids to say "I can't do this YET". That simple change builds lifelong qualities like resilience and endurance, making sure that they know it's always okay to ask for help.
