What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
One of the things I really enjoy about tutoring is searching for various methods to teach a concept to a student. Each person visualises, understands and absorbs information differently, and often the differentiating factor between a suitable and unsuitable tutor for a certain student is whether the tutor is able to explain things in a way that particular student can grasp. For me, the search to find the optimum explanation for each individual is stimulating and seeing the moment a student grasps a concept that has been difficult for them to understand till then, is extremely rewarding.My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths as a tutor is my ability to understand and accept what the students’ concerns are, and the emphasis I have on teaching ‘why’ and not just ‘how’. Being a student, I understand how it feels to have a very important question but hesitating to ask the tutor because it feels ‘dumb’ to ask. As a tutor I am very conscious of how I make students feel and ensure that they feel free to ask me anything . Furthermore, I believe it is vital to know why something is being done, as this is what encourages problem solving and critical thinking when questions shift to application type questions.Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
As a tutor, I believe it is crucial to understand the exact knowledge gap a student may have and helping them by clarifying the root of their doubt. I did Methods and Specialist ATAR, and the roots of my doubts went to the basics - I think the fundamental area to work on for success is proficiency in the basics, which ensures any advancement from that can be tackled by the student, and this is also why I want to tutor year 7 - 10 students. Another crucial aspect I believe is make sure a tutor is not robotic, and approaches each student as a different individual with different needs.Subjects Tutored 🎓

The main area we focused on was refining her approach to certain questions. For example, in some cases, using Pythagoras’ theorem instead of trig ratios would be quicker and more efficient. With continued practice choosing the most suitable method, she’ll be able to work more efficiently and confidently in assessments.

When she attempted the questions, it was clear she was thinking carefully about the steps involved. Her questions showed that she was actively trying to make sense of the topic, which is a great sign early in the year.
Quadratics will still need continued practice to help the methods feel more natural and automatic. Spending more time applying the concepts to different question types will help build confidence. With regular practice, this topic will become much more manageable for her.

She was confident working through the questions and only needed a small amount of guidance on a few areas. Overall, she approached the lesson positively and engaged well with the revision.
There were only a few minor areas that needed revisiting, which we went through during the lesson. Continuing to revise these topics will help keep everything fresh and build even more confidence. With ongoing practice, she’ll be in a strong position moving forward.
